Letter: FNM will continue to be better government for Bahamas

EDITOR, The Tribune.

IN 1992 when the FNM was elected as the Government of the Bahamas, it is obvious that they have done much more for the Bahamian people than the PLP and have proven to be a much better Government.

First there was the monumental task of having to restore the good name of our country which was destroyed by the PLP. Trust had to be restored before investors would consider investing in this country ever again. As investors came, the job opportunities became available.

The Out Islands were provided with necessities such as electricity, paved roads, proper telephone service and proper running water, things the PLP failed to provide in 30 years. After being hit be a hurricane, the FNM hit the ground quickly assisting those most in need. Exuma became a little island with a booming economy.

New schools were built to address the overcrowding of classrooms.

Clinics were built to assist the sick who had to wait for hours at Princess Margaret Hospital. Libraries were built to assist students to have greater access to knowledge.

Low cost homes were built to help the middle class and poor Bahamian to afford to own a home. Real property tax was made exempt for all homes valued under $100,000.

When 911 affected the entire world the FNM put financial structures in place to keep the country afloat until such time as things would improve.

Now in their third term the FNM continues to prove a better government. The straw market is being rebuilt at a reasonable cost. Road improvements have begun. The restructuring of downtown will begin soon. An unemployment benefit has been introduced to help those out of work for a certain period of time. The scholarship programme remains available for those who qualify. More money has been allocated for social services. Bahamians are able to see what the money from the treasury is being spent on.

Compare this to the PLP party which consists of some persons who believe they are entitled to get rich at the expense of this country and some children of MPS who believe since daddy got rich, I am entitled to as well.

The PLP during their last term appointed many committees of which we have yet to hear one solution to any problem.

They continue to brag about the urban renewal project which failed since conception.

If one compared the two parties and were honest they would see that the FNM has been and will continue to be the better government for the Bahamas without a doubt.
