Title:
I agree with Erasmus Folly, it doesn't matter what you call them! The fact remains that a large percentage of those persons being paid with OUR tax dollars are not performing to capacity! They are allowed to keep this country running at a snails pace. With so many technological advances there is no reason for it to take months to process applications, etc. And what annoys me most is the attitude; the looks that could kill, the sarcastic answers or simply being ignored when one walks into a government office!
And I also know a few dedicated, hard working government workers who go beyond the call of duty to assist..unfortunately they make up the minority of government employed workers!!

Title: Names? Words? Bah!
Who cares what they are called? I care about the fact that they subsist doing very little work off of your and my tax dollars. That is what I care about. The name is irrelevant. Bahamians are too caught up in BS titles and 'names' as it is. All form, pomp and ceremony, little action, little doing. A little less conversation, a little more action, as the King once said. ;-) Public or civil, the entire bureaucracy needs to be shaved down by probably about 50%, then government could cut taxes to businesses and we could grow a REAL economy here, with REAL jobs... if we had a stronger work ethic, we would probably dominate the Caribbean by now with our banks, insurance companies, perhaps even utilities, but our 'protected' laziness speaks for itself and perpetuates itself. I don't care where my 'stones' land, because the entire structure is one big nonsensical glass house - let it rain glass!

Title: Straighten up and throw right !
The government workers were previously referred to as Civil Servants when the Bahamas was a colony and sometime around 1967, Sir Clement Maynard was the head of the Civil Service Union. Afterward, the government workers were later referred to as the Public Service and today is represented by the Bahamas Public Service Union. If you are going to be throwing 'stones' at least know who you are throwing them at by referring to the correct group. And, I am sure there are many hard working Public Servants and you can usually tell by the performance of their MInister.

Title: FACTUAL
MIND YOU ! There is one (1) Public Servant who I Know and can attest to as being Honest, Punctual (a few times called in delayed because of traffic), Hard Working, Pleasant Personality, Quiet, Helpful, Intelligent, Qualified (has almost half the alphabet behind their name with Hons.), Patriotic, Nation Builder, Does not accept any favors/lunch money or gifts for duty preformed etc., and always will give 101 percent output. Sadly, their services were no longer needed and was laid off last year.

Title: corruption endemic?
Corruption is endemic throughout the civil service. It does not matter how many persons are fired from the service, there will always be corruption. It does not matter which government is in power, there will always be corruption.. It does not matter who the leader is, there will always be corruption! Some people get government jobs just to illegally gain funds and materials from the public. Many people are just too materialistic and will do anything or hurt anyone to get what they want and let's not forget what the Gomez Report had to say about our people and their relationship with corruption!

Title: All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them.
I am glad that someone is exposing the corruption going on within our government departments. All everyone hears about are the police officers being charged for bribery but no one hears about other civil servants being dealt with for the same thing and WE ALL know that it is going on in these other government departments. There must be some oversight of what these people are doing and it is high time that our government deal with these people who get paid a monthly salary and are not doing the work they are supposed to be doing. I agree that during the next election I want to hear what the parties are going to do to correct this issue. I am just sick and tired of having to pay people a little extra for a service they already get paid for. Just like how they now have a civilian board overseeing the police the same needs to be done about the other civil servants because they are making more in bribes than the police do.

Title:
The majority of people in the civil service are lazy, incompetent, indifferent and rude so there is no surprise that many are also corrupt! WHY does it take so long for anything to be done by government departments? They are sitting there day after day being paid with our tax dollars and if you are to call them for assistance or submit an application you must practically beg them to get results. It takes them months to do a job that should only take a few hours. Its high time that those in charge do as Jesus did in the Temple...go in a throw them out! I think we have sat by for too long and let them hold us hostage as they dragged our country down to a banana republic. In the next election I hope to hear from the parties how they plan to restructure the civil service to make these departments efficient and productive!

What is especially enlightening though, is the fact the Tribune and its damn fine reporters and editors certainly have the guts to show everyone, here and in every other country, that they are not afraid in standing up for a better Bahamas by going after these miscreants when it appears everyone else is unable to get the job done !

Title: WELL MUDDOES !! WHO IS DAT YINNA SAYS IS TIEFING ..?!x!/?
WHEN EVEN THE PASTOR ASPIRES TO HAVE A FANCIER CAR AND A BIGGER HOUSE THAN THE POLITICIAN, IT TRULY SAYS IT ALL. ...one cannot go against the word of a man of GOD...The pollster is INCORRECT to refer to the 'Crown land grubbers' and others of their ilk as 'civil service' and especially 'civil' as the term is used in the UK, populated by millions, where such nonsense is treated with instant mass resignations and quick punishment ! After Independence, the employees of the Bahamas Government should be referred to as 'PUBLIC SERVANTS' to remind them who nows emlpoys dem. Furthermore, the Pollster should not be even using the word 'few' especially when it refers to a small number. When one goes over the headlines starting from our first Premier to present day govt, the number of 'bad apples' number in the hundreds, for a population of a few hundred thousand. What is especially enlightening though, is the fact the Tribune and its damn fine reporters and editors certainly have the guts to show everyone, here and in every other country, that they are not afraid in standing up for a better Bahamas by going after these miscreants when it appears everyone else is unable to get the job done !

How many men in office have been investigated, corruption and stealing is revealed and then you hear nothing of it again. HEADS NEED TO ROLL AND BODIES NEED TO BE PUT IN FOX HILL PRISON!!!

Title: Endemic
Corruption has permiated all aspects of our society. Corruption comes & goes from the top down. Probably many people are forced to compromise their values in order to survive working for people who often are sociopaths. Most CEOs & Politicians are sociopathic. Their corruption is endemic. Many feel that if "you can't beat them you may as well join them" . A tragedy for our world. The people have become like sheep and prefer to not think about the disturbing things going on around them. They wont put much effort in understanding situations that are impacting their lives either. The media and entertainment is dumbing us down and our educational systems no longer educate properly. Our kids will be far worse off than us because they are not developing analytical or reasoning skills. We don't teach this anymore. Most degrees no longer mean a well educated individual.

The Banks in the Bahamas dont give Bahamian enough interest on their bank accounts Banks give us low interest not every month but every 3 months while the Banks making 10% to 15% off our money in the Banks this is scandalous!
And we Bahamians so Fool we een say nothing or do nothing about it, Find out how much american and canadian banks is apply interest to their peoples accounts.
We bahamians is in another slavery not of the white man but by the MP's and Politicians, Lawyers, Businessmen and women.
Note if Crime goes down guess who win the people and guess who loses the criminals and the lawyers. Dont forget they making money for every client they get innoncent or guilty. Wake up Bahamas its geting worse if you all dont do nothing, Educate yourself from Mental Slavery. Herb wont do that but being literate and educated, pick up a book and Do something positive will.

Title: Insulting my intelligence!
Tribune pollster, please stop insulting my intelligence! The point of this poll is what, if I may ask? Please don't ask redundant questions in your polls. But since you ask, we all know that corruption is endemic in this country. The problem is the psyche of the Bahamian populace who don't see what is done as corrupt, otherwise how could a person when offering themselves for elected office disclose that they are only a "thousand-aire" but in five years when it's time for re-election and despite the fact that their salary is only "X" and they have quite a large family, they are a "millionaire" couple times over? While you "investigating" could you please investigate the inspectors at the Ministry of Works who ain't see nothing wrong with expectin' "a lil sumtin", or "lunch" before they come to inspect your building and deliberately prevent hard working Bahamians from obtaining their occupancy certificate because those hard working Bahamians ain't "free up" on the lunch money. Perhaps, you should try to elicit from your public what they consider to be corrupt or examples of public corruption, because even though you've exposed these "investigations", the fact is that some persons still won't see anything "wrong" or "corrupt" about what these "civil servants" did.

Title: Endemic!
It is an endemic epidemic of biblical scale. Perhaps that's why so many Bahamians are so active with their churches - they praying for some serious forgiveness for all the nonsense they do through the week. This is a thoroughly corrupt society. We must admit that if we are going to improve it. A spade is a spade.

Title: Inherent Corruption Alive And Florishing
The Bahamas has always been ruled by pirates, and this will continue until the people stop following politicians like blind sheep and demand transparency and accountability from Government. Too much is done behind closed doors where the only persons aware of these shady deals are a few high ranking Ministers or Perminate Secretaries. The UBP, PLP and FNM are no exception. Messer’s Ingraham and Christie were trained by and inherited the present corrupt system of pirates from Mr. Pinding who inherited it from the UBP and quickly fell hook line and sinker in love with the very corrupt practices he promised the people to "save" them from. Both Christie and Ingraham know full well what continues to happen in every Ministry but are not strong enough to face the negative backlash and loose of support from well known deeply entrenched cronies. The only reason the FNM went after corruption in Bahamas Customs was to close the holes that hemorrhaged badly needed resources. Not simply due to corruption. The Bahamas needs a new breed of politician to solve this decades old problem of systemic corruption. We cannot expect prodigies of the UBP & Mr. Pindling to go against themselves……..THAT ALL THEY KNOW!!!
