Which list do you think the Bahamas, as an international finance centre and tourism centre belongs on?
You mock the 'enlightened' countries, yet are happy to condemn us to a list of backwards, overly religious, corrupt, tin pot dictatorship run, bogus Republics and just accept that. Who is a bigot there? Do you really want to be on the list with the Islamic republics? Do you really want to be thought of as a Taliban like religious state? your polls are about as objective as those of fox news. The way you phrase and frame the question helps you to direct what you want the result to be. For example you compare molesting children and stealing funds to being a homosexual, placing it on some imaginary scale of morality. Also you place the active act of molesting children with the passive act of being a homosexual. Engaging in homosexual sex would better fit this kind of poll. In short, you may think you are a protector of the rights of homosexuals in the Bahamas but you are certainly doing more harm than good with these ludicrous polls and biased reporting. Homosexuality is an abomination in the eyes of GOD. Anything that goes against the will of GOD is a sin. We all sin no matter what it is. I am all the way with "I fa common sense". But, Joe Blow if you were to read Genesis; Abraham and Sarah were married and unable to conceive on their own without GOD'S touch in the matter. They went about it themselves and Abraham had Ishmael with Hagar even though GOD promised Abraham and Sarah a child (Isaac).The result? Bahamians love to use the bible as collateral to their lack of proper reasoning. Im NOT religously inclined therefor my process of reasoning requires logics and the subjective nature of experience. Homosexuality is not UNNATURAL. Can you imagine what the population would be and the adversites that comes with it if everyone was "straight" from 'day one'? Mother nature has unusual ways of maintaining balance. What really boils my blood is when so called CHRISTIANS abuse the bible by only adopting extracts to justify their position. But maybe I can administer a dose of their own medicine "..he without sin cast the first stone." However in the best interest of all to whom it may concern the law should recognize any formal committment made between two individuals entitling them to the right of benifits through consolidation. Then again for those that are throwing stones at homosexuals, whats your objective? To destry those that dont conform to you way of life? Is it your attempt to contribute to earthly perfection when this is said not to be your final destination? Give me a F@#^in break. Why not invent a surgery so gay men can have a baby out of their as*es! Im not joking Im serious!
It appears to me the whole argument of gays and lesbians is to be treated fairly. Ok. But its not normal for 2 men 2 be married Im sorry. You want equal pay fine. you want to stand in line at the foodstore and not be pushed out of line thats fine too., etc.
Just take your normal treatment and whatever you take behind closed doors but we normal people dont have to tak you gay people fighting to have your unnatural lifestyle as normal into law. We aint having it! Just argue for basic human rights excluding getting married, or having some dumb donkey law saying its a hate crime to call gays a "sis*y" or "fa*got" which gays were labeled as a long time ago. Where to gay people get off calling themselves a PEOPLE! This is not some nationality with its own country (I wish they did then we could bomb them all!) it is a lifestyle choice they make and are now trying to justify it with ridiculous reasons. The most ludicrous being that people are born that way. I am just fed up with the dumb $&!) that these so called people try to get us to believe. 1. Ironically, one of the highest religious members who had no problem in condemning a former political leader had no problem in 'mediating' between the section of the church for gay pastors and others who condemned this abomination. The state's Christian values are not selective but absolutely clear cut for all.
2. Recently, the BCC refused to support the bill to protect husbands from raping their wife. Scenario is that the man can boongie another man and can go home and tek his piece and pass along his disease is obviously wrong.
3. Sometime last year another high ranking Church Leader publicly expressed his anti- death penalty views to the legal profession and soon after was publicly followed by another church pastor. While their views are entirely according to their beliefs and are to be respected in our democratic society, I do not believe the religious beliefs are to superseed, influence and bias the laws of the state for those found guilty and nothing is said of the victim, the victim's family, loss of income to the victim's family, loss for the victim to have more children etc.
4. Clearly, all the choices are wrong, but what is worse is when pastors want to play politics and lawyer with sins.

Funds can be repaid, but the damage to a child may never be entirely undone. I have 3 "Rules" for the sexual options I am willing to support and/or ignore in others - adult, consenting & human. No one here is advocating the abuse of minors. Stop conflating minors/bestiality with homosexuality. In the former, one party has no choice in the matter, is a victim of abuse and the entire act is morally reprehensible. In the latter, two consenting adults agree to be intimate.
Again, no one is talking about allowing anyone to harm a minor, which is happening regularly in this society without the help of gays.

Title: Pssst, pssst. Shhhhh....don't tell !

Apart from the big Cruise Ships which temporarily visit, have anyone wondered about the little wooden sail boats coming illegally to the Bahamas, packed with 200 or so illegal haitians usually consisting of almost all men or 95 % men and 5% women ? Surely these people have needs like others, so what happens ? According to the govt. years ago there are some 60,000 men/women here. They have one of the highest HIV populations in the world and we certainly are getting there. Perhaps, preaching out here against it may not be financially astute as preaching out against it at the Harbor where you can suddenly show all that you are on top of things and because there is no money to collect. p.s. God is alive and well ! It's just that some of his 'shepherds' are too busy getting rich in titles, and earthly things and have left the 'flock' to wander. and some have gotten lost.

Many of these pastors are so obsessed with sexuality that they either disapprove of or are secretly participating in, which is harming no one. Yet predatory child molesters damage children for life and they don't seem to mind. Every time people want to come to The Bahamas on a cruise they shout bloody murder when those people are not doing anything to harm us and they are actually helping by bring their money to spend here. Some of these cruisers are families, who apart from their being gay, which is a natural sexuality, are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers celebrating family unity, which we are so lacking here in The Bahamas. While the pastors remain practically silent about major social ills, they crow about the sexuality they so fear. The fellowship of pastors in The Bahamas are a bunch of jokers and the biggest joke is on us.

Public funds should be put to public use not private uasge. A stealer of public funds should be made to repay the funds or sent to prison for about five years of hard labor.

I can't remember seeing Bethel or any other religious leader speaking out so extensively (or at all, come to think of it) on any of these disgusting issues. It seems the ONLY issue they are willing or able to discuss is homosexuality. Do the rest of you not find this odd? Does it not concern you that the religious leaders in this country aren't speaking up on anything other than an act between two consenting adults? And to those of you criticising the tribune for its polls, no one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to respond.

Those of you who disagree with the poll because the choices seem designed to skew the results, it seems to me they were chosen because these three issues have been in the news lately. Or do you guys not read the news? To those of you who think it is a redundant question, I think it is quite relevant that of these three "burning issues" the pastors only ever speak about one. What does that say about them and their relevance to this society? To Antoinette, that is nonsense - a homosexual relationship is one between consenting adults where no one is a victim, that is not the case with child molestation and beastiality. The point is whether or not we are the kind of society that will agree to disagree on certain personal choices, but allow people to do what they want with their own lives, so long as they don't victimize anyone. Or are we still a mideval society where we need wild-eyed priests and bogus prophets telling us who to burn at the stake? And Lex, for someone who considers himself so smart, you really should think before you answer these things... So because the assumption is that the majority subscribes to a particular religious perspective, the question shouldn't be asked? Perhaps you should educate yourself on the concept of the Tyranny of the Majority – then you might appreciate how valuable it is to allow the minority to be heard as well.

I agree with ALL OF THE ABOVE about ALL OF THE ABOVE; the are equally reprehensible. I am sick and tired of people being condemned because they are of the opinion that sissying (let's not put a pretty name to it) is alright in the world. If I believe that it is wrong and I want to express that opinion then based on the Constitution of my country I am allowed that and no one has the right to say otherwise. If a person wants to be a sissy then that is between them and God and they and them of their particlar persuasion need to stop trying to ram it down the throats of us that think it is wrong.

First of all your question is biased as being homosexual is not a social ill. It is merely a person having a sexual attraction to members of the same sex. I am surprised that in 2010 that Bahamians are still so homophobic and vitriolic towards gay persons. This poll is laughable, I agree, but what is laughable about it is the responses. The fact that anyone picked the latter two choices or even 'all of the above' over simply 'molesting children' is what is so pathetic about this country. I am ashamed, everyday, to be a Bahamian and share 'heritage' with such hate filled, ignorant and immature 'so called' Christians. To even imply that molesting children or bestiality is the same thing as homosexuality is a disgrace and speaks to the level of unbelievable ignorance, homophobia, prejudice and immorality that really exists in this country. Asking your public to "grade" which behaviour they find most reprehensible is completely asinine in a society the majority of whom "subscribes" to a religion the figurehead of which is the Christ, who condemned not only the visible "sin" but the invisible "sin" that occurs in the heart. Title: terrible poll

How misleading. I didn't get that impression from reading the pastor's article. what I did get is that he, like many others are opposed to the homosexual and lesbian community trying to impose their way of life on the rest of the world. There are many thing morally wrong, e.g the three options that you espouse in your poll, along with vices such as sweethearting and fornication, just to name a few. But, what you would find is that the people who are doing these things accept that they are wrong, and are satisfied that they will have to answer to God for themselves. I certainly don't see these people trying to get the rest of the world to accept their sins. Yes I know I mentioned the word sin, and no sin is greater than the next. BUT I tell you what I hate to see the most, is people with their homosexual agenda trying to scold others who speak out against it, as condoning other areas of immorality. If Pastor Bethel chooses this issue to fight, there are many other people that can fight the other issues.
