When one think about running a country they need experience, guidance, peoples' skills and a lot more. A new organisation must start by being honest, willing to learn from the more seasoned politican and humble to realize that they know very little.I do no see those qualities in todays youth. They are rude, know it all and want everything now. They need to realize that they have to creep before walking and failing that lets keep the FNM they will make mistakes and so willl others. But their experiences will bring them pack on track.

You all who dont have the backbone, basketballs, and brains to protest and demand, DEMAND, DEMAND, the PLP government in 2002 and the FNM government in 2007 to execute and hang guilty murderers, and to keep rapists off the streets behind bars, and also to cause petty criminals to do hard labor inn farming both outdoors and indoors and community cleanup while still in chains and shackles.
You Bahamians are all ignorant, visionless, passionless. YOu who fail to honor real men and women who fought for this country like sir cecil w. whitfield, and sir randol Fawkes as examples.
You Bahamians who choose to worship a tyrant rather than Jesus Christ. You who love dishonor, nepotism, stealing from the Government. Yes, you civl servant workers that do it.
And you who worship our Bahamian celebrities the Politicians both PLP and FNM. Who have not made life easier for Bahamians but progressively harder. Many foreigners do not want to live here. I wonder why? Maybe cost of living is tooo high, it takes too long to start a business and certain people in the Banks and whatever steal your ideas.
There is no tru justice here. If you bought a stolen car and the owner is found. the owner gets his car back but you lost your money with which you bought the stolen car with. Why not the thief who stole the car pay you back the same amount or double for which you paid the thief for the stolen car.
Bahamians you all need to stop from joking. We live in serious times. Now is not the time to believe everything these politicians say you need to believe their actions. What are they doing for you, your community and the country? Is it in a positive light?
Come on people time is going and we cant afford for stupidness and joking to continue on in Parliament.
Man up and either ship in or out!

I commend you for these types of polling. But remember, many YOUNG Bahamians cannot read and i want to know their opinion because they always determine election results. This poll must also be done orally.
Now to the question.I would absolutley consider another party. I feel one is way more productive than the other, but certain decisions really bother me like selling portions of a marine park! There is NO excuse for this. Disappointed!

Example: When we go on Bay street to view the Junkanoo, there are many other groups performing, but the difference is when either Saxson or Valley Boys comes out, the cheer is different. Why it's becasue that's all we know. What I'm I saying change is good, but the majority rules.

I would be more than willing to vote for a third party if 2 factors are in place. Firstly does this third party have the necessary amount of member to gain a majority in the house. Secondly, if the FNM and PLP keep the same leaders in place without even showing the public they are willing to uplift the youth within the their parties.

Even if this party simply force the PLP and the FNM to up their game, both when in power and as the opposition, then it would be a great thing for our country. From what I can see, the Bahamian people who have come before me, have ushered the country into an OK state...Yes it can be better, but looking around the Caribbean it could also be alot worse. But if we want a real paradim shift we as a people have to make a change, not simply expect 40 people elected and put up in the House of Assembly for 5 years to do it. If they represent us, we as the citizens should be able to force their hand in the best interest of the country, not them getting in, taking all they can get and leaving us high and dry. The policitics I see seems childish to me. Back and forth about non-issues when serious issues that desperately need attention go unattended. Something has to change

I am a young Bahamian with a free mind. I have no alegiance to the Free National Movement or Progressive Liberal Party. I have voted in the last two elections and can with certainty and clear conscience that I did so considering ONLY the candidates in my constituency and what they brought to the table regarding such.
I feel we will never take The Bahamas to its fullest potential unless we open our minds to see beyond party lines. In doing so, we will ensure that when a political party obtains the majority of the votes, it is because it had the better candidates, who represented the interests of the people in the constituencies they ran for.
PLP, FNM, BDM .... doesn't matter to me. I just want the best future for myself and my children. What banner that future comes under is of no significance.

Bahamian people need to get real. Would the introduction of a new party solve our political crisis? The answer is not in new parties but new people and new culture.
For too long have I been hearing the tones of the same political voices. Let's get some new faces in Parliament. In doing so, I am certain that new ideas would arise followed by honour and new agendas.
We also must not be overcomed with the notion for a new political machinery. I send the warning that, from the outside looking in, creates an illusion that this is all it takes. Don't be fooled! What government and Parliament do goes through to make laws, enter into contracts, and policies are mostly the result of much research.
A new party would most certainly fall in line. Even the newly elected President Barack Obama found out the hard way... canging the way washington do business is not so easy.

Good point Garnell. May be a public debate can help. If we all agitate for public debates, each constituency, each candidate. Show up, answer the hard questions, show what you gat. It will surely help separate the sheep from the goat. Potentially it can show each candidate for who they are (or at least give us a glimpse), it can give us their policies on certain issues and their intentions so that we can have a yard stick to measure their performance by and hold them accountable too. This may be an easy thing to get people unified on. We are just asking for information. The only people that will oppose will be the candidate that cannot hold his own or the supporter that does not think his candidate is capable. This too will tell us a lot. Get the newspapers involved. Get all these talk shows involved. Do news reports, polls start a mass campaign and lets see if they can ignore the loud noise in the market

Even further, we should be looking at each individual candidate, his character, what he or she brings to the table, what they can do to better their individual constituency and the country as a whole. Implement a 3 strikes your out policy with minor, petty crimes to encourage community service throughout the bahamas with super vision.

There are only 2 times that we had a public debate. Cant remember the 1 ST time but the 2 ND time was in the Kennedy constituency remember when the PLP, BDM, Workers Party, except for the FNM who publicly spoke in Kennedy.
My Point is the individual Bahamian will never get ahead, have justice by capital punishment, have economic concessions like the foreigners, have affordable living, proper professional Government institutions, equal economic opportunities for Bahamians especially for small businesses, affordable health care, affordable legal counsel, more diverse jobs.
Unless you all people including me do something. Doing what you got to do to survive is not the best way. That can be Piracy or criminal activities. do what is right, protest ask questions to your representatives, get educated about Life, politics, the issues facing the Bahamas, and how proper citizens and families should act and behave.

Now Bahamar can do whatever they want to their property. If they dont want bahamians working or driving thru their properth it is their right They bought the property for $30 million dollars and the older generational govt. (UBP and the first PLP Govt.) bought that land for $128 million.
Some of you all Lousy no good Bahamians need to give credit to PM Hubert Ingraham for his direct, leadership despite the unwarrantd criticisms like he is a dictator but he is not. He is just straightforward and blunt & quite frankly the best PM we ever had.
The Challenge is having a better PM than Ingraham. Remember Ingraham never played roots movie every election time to incite hatred & predjudice in black people against white people or any kind of foreigners.
Bahamians need to wake up and realize and read books on real leadership. Leaders need to exercise wisdom and not be motivated by greed and secrecy like the PLP. For example the 2002 PLP Government and Pleasant Bridgewater former extortion case, PLP general Cambridge caught in a scandal with US politicians with illegal money activities, PLP Bleacher scandal, PLP Korean Boat Scandal, PLP Hush hush rape scandal.

I was not taught to be against the PLP. In fact my grandfather was a big supporter of the PLP. Having personal experience with the way the UBP only checked for the wealthy, he always said he did much better under the PLP than under the UBP. And I'm not racest against Blacks. At first this county was inhabited by the indians, after the Spanish exterminated them all it became, in due course, a country of white europeans, and yes, i know some were pirates, convicts and indentured labourers. After the successful American rebellion and the exodus of loyalists and their slaves the county's complexion started to change quite rapidly as the poorer and/or uneducated you are the more children you poduce. the white population was concerned in the 60's that when the black population used their votes to elect more black politicians instead of the white representatives that they had traditionally returned to parliament then the shift in political power would leave them marginalized or worse, for instance see Kenya.
Fifty years on, few Bahamians consider the country to be worse off under black leadership. The country is now undergoing an influx of Haitians and we are scared about losing our culture and political power. Bring it on, I say, we need the ambitious brave hard working immigrants who do not have an 'entitlement mentality'. The complexion of the country will be changed of course but change is inevitable and necessary.
Before the xenophobes start banging their drums I would add that the immigration should be managed and the benefits of living in our country be paid for over a period of time by the immigrants. Not many objected to the policy of giving residency to wealthy immigrants who invest in our country and in the same way a Haitian or Jamacian immigrant should be expected to pay over a period of time for the priviledge and be subject to certain restrictions, such as not having the right to having his/her spouse and children join him for the 10 years or so.

PLP's and FNM's both need to go as they are both making silly decisions they don't know what qustions to ask and they lack foresight - for eg. before they both vote on accepting BAHAMAR, they need to ask the questions, where are the tourists going to come from, what are they going to do and if they do come, would it put pressure on our already strained resources (water and electricity). No tourists goes to a destination to stay in a hotel they need to do something - there is no nightlife here and no day time attractions except the beach. And if the project fails, who will own BAHAMAR's properties.

Over the short history of our country we have only had 3 Prime Ministers. Sir Lynden is dead. We have 2 alive and remaining. I refuse to believe with a population of nearly 300,000 we only have 2 men alive that can lead our country properly. 2 out of 300,000 that is a sad by line. Surely we do not only have 1 out of every 150,000 of us capable of being a leader. Those intelligent, insightful qualified individuals out there that have a lot to offer this country in terms of governance should be given a chance without having to subject themselves to the "dirtiness" and political games and pervasive corrupt culture of the existing parties. Our present government does not have a clue what to do to turn this country around. They are just spinning their wheels. They should do the honorable thing and step aside and let someone else turn things around but because you cannot expect honorable actions from the not so honorable, they will have to be removed. The leader of the Opposition is no better that is why I will surely consider a third party.

I first voted in the 1992 election,FNM. And I have voted FNM ever since. However, I believe that the FNM has lost its way. And there is no way I could support them in the next election. Also,being a white Bahamian, I can't support the PLP because of their anti-white attitudes and the unsavory individuals therein. So unless there is a new party of new, young people I will sit out the next election.
If any new party is formed it better have a good mix of candidates from various professions. Not mostly Lawyers as FNM/PLP like to do. Lawyers are trained to argue, and argue, and argue. Is it any wonder parlament can't get anything constructive done. Also, they make their money off of court cases dragging on and on for years. We've got rats watching the cheese. No More!
Any new party that wants to win the next election should support the following:
1 HANGING. (Do whatever is necessary to speed up the process.)
2 IMMIGRATION (All illegals rounded up and deported. Applications quickly resolved).
3 EDUCATION. (No student should leave highschool without employable skills).
4 TAX RELIEF ( Cost of living is too high. Gov must run a tighter ship to save money).
5 ISLAND INCENTIVES (Make it attractive for Bahamians to return to the out islands to get people out of Nassau. Eg. New businesses get 3 years free of tax. Bahamians moving back from Nassau get tax free building materials, etc.)
6 ENFORCE OUR LAWS. (Enforce all our laws. If is outdated then remove it. From cussing in public to littering to lewd conduct to rape to murder. NO EXCEPTIONS. Whoever you are, if you do the crime you do the time).
That is just a few of the things they should focus on.

Move to change banking policies to ensure incentives offered to foreigners are given nationals - F
Zero tolerance action against the criminal element - F
Plan to stimulate Economy of Certain MP via road development - A+
Plan to create land in prime location of harbour for construction of Ferry Port/Terminal for certain MP with Tax payers money - A+
Presence of a super strong and might opposition - F-
Opposition with a plan of new ideas for reviving the Bahamas - F
At this point, there is nothing left to lose. We are so far under that we have to look up to see bottom. Point is we have been exploited, we are being raped right now of the few remaining items we possess in the name of development and stimulus. We have are considered and spoken of as dumb, insignificant, incapable and unqualified to the point where the very leader himself publicly damns his nation with such words. So if he's the example for the crap to come again thats been on us all this time, the answer is hell no, lets move on, we have nothing else to loose and only room to gain at this point. When you have so much people and so much things that are broken, it just makes it easy for anyone with a heart to become a one monday hero.

All this talk about Illegal immigrants... don't blame them for coming, blame the Bahamian ppl for making them so comfortable here. Besides, just like most of us can name at least one person here illegally, we can name at least one Bahamian living in the US illegally! Think about it, the illegal immigrant couldnt survive here if we as Bahamians:
1. Weren't too lazy to clean our own homes;
2. Weren't too lazy to mow our own lawns;
3. Didnt have tooo much pride to stand on the corner and sell phone cards;
4. Weren't too proud to pump gas;
5. Showed up for work everyday, when we should, including BIRTHDAYS!!
(This is the only country where employee birthdays are generally a HOLIDAY)
6. Showed up for work on time and didn't take sick days, unless really sick;
7. Actually WORK when we do show up for work;
and the list can go on!!!!
If you dont want to do the work, someone else (illegal immigrants) will!!!
Stop complaining and start WORKING!!
What we DO NEED to worry about is the squatting on land, and running of business without paying taxes like the rest of us do!!
I am a full-born Bahamian employer and am tired of hiring Bahamian people just because they are Bahamians and should get priority. The foreigner is no longer "cheap labour" but are now exemplary employees!! We could learn a thing or two from them. I will not hire an illegal immigrant, but an Immigrant YES!! Bahamians .. Maybe!!! I've hired Bahamians of all ages, and they all have the same problem: always late and always sick!!
We're complaining about immigrants taking all the jobs, and these jobs are of the lowest levels. So why are they still moving ahead faster than us?? Because its not how much money one makes, it how much money one SAVES, and they (the foreigners) know that! Dont blame the people for coming here. If we were in their shoes, and could make our lives and that of our families better by going to another country and easily obtaining work, I'm sure at least 95% of us would do the same thing!

In order to borrow money for a home or car, I must secure the loan with a down payment, the bank holds the title until paid off and I must buy life insurance for the full amount, my money included. This is all so wrong on so many levels.
It is next to impossible for any poor Bahamian with integerity and limited resources to elevate themselves in this country.
I was once told that any person in the Bahamas, their family member or their ancestor, regardless of race has committed fraudlent acts of some kind which enabled them to be successfully financially.
The trafffic in Nassau is fustrating to say the least. Understandable when persons are going to work for 9:00 am and leaving work @ 5:00 pm. Not so understandable at 3:00 pm in the afternoon.
All over Nassau, in the Government and Private sector, persons with limited and unlimited means leave their jobs every day for school pick ups. I find it very fustrating to go into a Government office at 3:15 pm only to be told that I must wait for someone to return from lunch, aka school pick up. Not only is producitivity down at this time, which is a huge inconvenience for the consumer, the roads are fustrating to drive on as well.
The sad part of this all, is that it has become such common practise in this country for us all to leave our jobs and I'm not talking about emergencies, I'm talking as a routine everyday we leave our jobs to pick up our children from school.
If we had a reliable and safe school bus system, we would find that our private and government ran business were more effective and efficient on a daily basis.
These 2 issues along with crime are uppermost in my mind. The party whose interested and committed to placing a tight grip on crime, reforming the Banking Laws and implementing a school bus system much like other 21 century countries will certainly have my vote.

while i agree that the bahamas does need a change on the political scene, i cant help to wonder why everyone thinks mr mccartney is the man for the job...if i can recall is he not basically doing what mr. (shane) gibson had started....yes he was accused of miscondut but it was never proven...i thought he was doing a pretty good job.

It has been said and it needs to continue to be said that the government should include members of the business sector, professionals trained in economics, hospitality industry etc., and minimize the amount of lawyers to those areas of government where necessary. This new group should seriously consider what the public is saying and offer a REAL alternative in order to stand a chance to overturn the tables in their favour. Bahamians by and large vote for the party of their following but times have changed, we are growing very tired of the mud throwing, the time wasting, the lack of planning, the old guard who insists in staying behind with old political tactics. A growing number of Bahamians are embracing technology, the wide world web where in seconds information is published, retrieved, and used. The world stopped being distant with the arrival of the home computer and the internet in the mid 90s and it keeps moving forward and growing. We do need younger blood in government but the existing two groups and any new group need to realized that now they are and will be dealing with a better informed citizen, a younger citizen as well, a citizen who is experiencing hardship, fearful on how to make ends meet, how to feel safe, how to find a job, how to pay school fees, how to pay medical needs. We are tired of having representatives who only come around our doors when the campaign is on or offer an appliance or a blue marlin for our vote, that I hope is yesterday news. It is time we have a government that can take us out of third world country and into second or better still first world. If this new group don´t come out offering us a REAL alternative........then please don´t bother.

I have perused through alot of the comments and agree with most. But I had to put in my 5 cents. The problem with most of our Bahamian people is our dependency on what the Government can do for us. But if you stop looking at the surface and dig deep you will see that we are in troble. The flux of illegal immigrants is not the only issue, it's what they do when they get here. You know the saying when in Rome do what the Romans do. Well the majority of them dont. I know of a Hatian village that has electricity, water crowded huts that of course did not abide by our building codes. How did they get occupancy permits??? Because anyone who has built a house knows that you need an occupancy permit to get BEC and Water, not to mention they have their own shops so that they wont even have to come out of the village and yet nothing is done about this. WHY? We are too complient.... where are the peaceful actovists? you know marching in Rawson square demanding that something be done. The Government does nothing because we sit quietly. Complain under our breaths and grumble. I overheard a Hatian talking to someone in Creole (not knowing that my neice understood them) talking about how stupid Bahamians are and how weak we are. This is serious people, I am not saying this for us to hate but this is our land and our children have to live here. It appears that they are want to Conquer and Divide. Are we as Bahamians going to sit and pretend like nothing is wrong? I love all people but it's not fair for you to come into a country and not abide by the rules. Think about it can they go in America and build a hut and get light and water without permits? Our Government, no matter who it is, first needs to ENFORCE the law. In every situation and every problem that exists there is a solution. The problem is no one wants to get on the "wrong side" of anyone. We need discipline! enforcement of the law, proper structuring in the legal system...we DONT need pretty roads (wake up people we pay taxes to have proper roads) it is the government's duty to fix the roads. We need to get past the baby feeding on the breast stage and move onto solid food. Stop voting for who fix up the most roads and bring in the most jobs. We need to vote for people who are willing to reform and bring structure and not be afraid to make changes.

I totally support a new political party once it has the right persons forming the same. Bahamians are totally fed up with the same old parties changing the guard so to speak. Look at the results for the Elizabeth constituency bye-election in February, approx. 1900 persons did not even go out to vote because they were frustrated with the system. Either they form a new party or join up and support the smaller ones we have now. I am a thorough supporter of the BDM and i think given a chance they can make a change.

It took me a few hours, all of the comments are passionate, and all agree that we need change in the Bahamas. The problem? How we're going to acheive that change. Many give reference to President Obama,(because he's half black, or black to some) when it comes to dealing with illegal Haitians, I don't think that a fair comparision, I think a fair comparison will be how Americans deal with Mexicans is a better comparison. I left the Bahamas almost 20 years ago, although I visit on many occasions and what I see is the same like 20 years ago, even when it come to the last names of those in the political arena, except for a few 'new' names. Unlike the U.S the bahamas supposely have less than 400K population, with limited resources, and jobs when there are hundred of illegal immigrants (mostly Haitians) invading our shores (Bahamas) every week, that IS a problem, it does not matter their success after arrival. We as Bahamians are tolerant and decent people, however, when we see our country future being strategically taken away from us, whether its from lack of action from our Government or from foreign powers, WE ACT. I can say for a fact many Bahamians living abroad still contribute to the Bahamas in many ways. As a college Adviser, I've been heartbroken by 'type' of Bahamians coming abroad to get an education. Am all for a new party, however by new I don't mean just a new name. New ideas, vision, taking the Bahamas to the next level, expanding commerce and good jobs to every Island of the Bahamas not just Nassau and Freeport. A new direction for native Bahamians on islands such as Abaco, Spanish Wells and others, Illegal is illegal, regardless of skin color. Truth be told MANY BAHAMIANS WANT TO MOVE BACK. I interviewed recently for a job in the Bahamas the Director don't know how to use a computer! (she admit) I was told I have too much education for the position. (can someone say job security) That said, we as Bahamians must get educated, or more education if we planned on continuing 'running' the Bahamas. The problem the old 'Klan' with deep ties to these parties both FNM & PLP will not give us a chance. In the U.S millions of offsprings from the KKK still exist and is fighting in stratigic ways to "get things back like they was". For us (youth Bahamians) to be getting drunk and high 24/7 not thinking that those who enslaved our parents want to do the same to us is more tragic than 500 illegal immigrant coming to our shoure daily, because if "push come to shove" who side you think they (illegal Haitians) gonna be on... ITS CALL DIVIDE AND RULE!

I thought it was the people who do most of the work in the trenches the police officers, and prison guards, and defence force officers and the Board of Directors or the Heads of the Departments like say Colonel, liutenant and so forth. These are the people you ask to be fired who are not doing their jobs properly. If they are not discipline them with a few chances, if they dont shape up ship the bad officers and their leading officers out, Duh!
Those who ACTUALLY run the various departments they are the ones you scrutinize, constructively criticize, and review.

Bahamas was never a 1st world country. Definition of 1 ST world country is: Since its original definition, the term First World has come to be largely synonymous with developed and/or highly developed countries.
1ST World countries are industrial countries. What is so industrial about the Bahamas? What do we export that is making tons of money for our economy and GDP? Dont say fishing because the Dominicans stay teefing and poaching our fish, conch and crawfish and Deence Force een doing nothing about it and Nothing about illegal immigration.
The Family islands are not developed because they are not self sustaining. Always relying on New Providence.
Bahamas is a 3 RD world country, was bordering on 2ND but we cant get ourselves modernized yet.
So where are we headed folks if we are not moving Upward, Onward, and Together as our Crest and motto goes? It seems downdard, backward, and divided.

We, Bahamians, at least all of us who have the right and opportunity to vote in general elections, need to confer with each other so that we all can become aware of our real needs, all over this country. Then we ought to develope a long term development/social plan and decide who amoung us is most capable of executing the plan. Candidates for such elections should be chosen on the basis of proven performance/ability after they would have passed the 'character' hurdle. FNM nor PLP per se is anointed by the Almighty.

Sometimes i wonder how the Bahamas would operate if our political system was Republic, in that we have a President, one person runnign for themselves with fresh new ideas to bring about change and progress, a house of assemply represented by MP's voted in based on what they can do for their particular constituency and not what party they favor, and the Senators voted in by the public to verify particular bills that would be put forth by the House of Assembly. Also, I think that the role of a Governor General should be terminated, because as far as i'm concerned, their role is completely redundant. We don't vote for them, but yet we pay them with our tax dollars? The purpose of the Governor General is for Beurocracy Purposes ...people that are being paid by OUR taxdollars need to ELECTED, and NEVER selected.

Well of course as many I already support one of the Political Parties here but we do need change. If a party where to be formed that had good leadership, a young mature membership group and has items such as a term limit for the Post of PM on its to do list, I would lean towards that party. The FNM and PLP have become to relaxed. Here we are in a state of uncertainty, with all negative levels such as crime on the rise and it seems that the Government of the Day has no solutions and the Opposition believes that word only means to stand up in the house of assembly and say no. I would vote for a new party provided the new political party is similar to the CDR in it make up and vision.
The FNM and PLP are full with Attorneys. Attorneys believe the way to fix problems is to pass more laws and they stay with tradition and do things the same old way. This is why the Bahamas has not made any changes to our Legal system or to our style of government in the 30 plus years of independence.
The Bahamas already have a lot of laws on the book which are not being enforced.
Neither the FNM nor the PLP will bring any new ideas to the governance of the Bahamas, as both party Leaders and member like the status quot
I believe a new party, made up of a new blood would change this country for ever.
Another change I would like to see, which would change our political arena is for us to be able to elect our member of the senate (senators).

the problems we face are largely due to global downturns - wars recessions etc. ingraham is getting progressively smarter macroeconomically. for example when obama tried his stimulus package on keynesian principles he obtained corporate greed - ingraham did not make that mistake - his tax moves favoured the poor he raised taxes on hotel rooms which hits the corporations/ hotels liquor etc. he did not target essentials like food. he is wide awake and getting tactically smarter. so why derail him to put a rookie in. also both tony blair and the iron lady made sweeping health reforms announced over the tv without consulting health secretaries in both instances unquestionably correct moves which did not allow powerful interest groups like doctors to derail them. Ingraham did similarly when the haitian earthquake happenned. he did what was right even though it may have harmed him politically. he seems to care more about the population than his own political prospects.

Sad to say, that its in the country's best interest to stick with the PLP and FNM as the major political parties. Indeed, we need people who know about government and people who understand that issues in government are more complex than all of the novices seem to think. Some say that Pindling didn't have any experience implying that they should be given a chance. However, Mr. Pindling was in Parliamnt for 11 years and was a very key part of the many labour and civil rights movements within the country. The fact that those people cannot see the difference between themselves and other like Pindling is proof that they are unable to properly assess and evaluate situations. Alot of that comes with time. So, although what we have is not as good as we would like, I think we had better stick with the PLP and FNM because anything else (given the names being tossed about) will surely be worse by far.

There is no real vision inside the FNM and PLP for the future of our country. Both parties are basically reacting to the past and to whatever they think will get them votes in the next election. We are a ship without a rudder. 4500 + - young adults complete high school each year. We are not creating the jobs needed to put them to meaningful work. We will have serious civic problems if we do not get on a course that leads to a better standard of living for the majority of our citizens. The Bahamas is quickly moving from first world to third world status in almost every measure.

To think we can instantly solve 4 decades of political stupidity in the short term with just one election is unrealistic. Bahamians could plan to have a "SENSIBLE" Government after another 5 to 10 years. The PLP & FNM unquestionably failed The Bahamas and Bahamians in every aspect of Governance. In fact, if Messer’s Pindling, Ingraham and Christie were CEO's of any corporation, they would have been fired several times over. "IF" a third party should emerge with enough talent to run the Country for 1 or 2 terms, this would give the PLP & FNM time to restructure and might produce 2 or possibly 3 serious political parties for the Country in the long term. To continue bouncing back and forth from bad to worse (PLP-FNM-PLP-FNM-PLP) have proven to be a failure. The Bahamas needs a government with knowledgable decision makers that can take a global view of government.
Currently, the FNM gives the perception that it is run by the native people of the Bahamas, but they have no working knowledge about governing beyond the "good olde boys" network. You're my friend? I rule in your favor. No long term view for future disaster plans, such as the travesty that was the Katrina debacle, where relief was arriving in the form of hard goods, but no one knew what to do with them, or where to send them. Ok, that time has passed. Has there been ANYTHING done to alleviate such a situation for the future? Is there a written PLAN for how to handle donations so that the government doesn't just sit back and try to collect customs taxes on donations, while the people are in dire need?
The PLP, on the other hand, have the sad moniker of emulating the worst of the American crooked politicians. The perception is that the only care what legislation can favor the PLP and its supporters, the rest of the (black) population be damned. Like it or not, the Bahamian people are truly a caste society. There are the HAVE-A-LOTS, and the HAVE-VERY-LITTLES. The PLP will work hard to insure that the HAVE-A-LOTS get to HAVE-MORE, while the consideration for the HAVE-VERY-LITTLES seems to be, "they don't have any money, so they can't do much about anything I want to do.." and the PLP marches on to the tune of the HAVE-A-LOTS. And unfortunately, the "rich" contingent comprises the minority of the population, but the majority of the riches.
There is definately a NEED for a political party that governs with as "even" a hand as can be effected in this disparate society. The Bahmian people don't need politicians that will "create new crimes," that more often than not will penalize the poor while protecting the rich. There needs to be a party which will protect and serve the PEOPLE of the Bahamas, NOT just one end of the economic ladder at the expense of the other end. And WHOEVER ends up governing, needs to start running the government with a more global approach, vs. an isolationist view.
"Bahamas for Bahamians," is just plainly ignorant in this globalization of the world's economy. It is this very view that has kept the (formerly) Princess Casino and resorts un-owned, un-operated, and costing the people of the Bahamas in tourism, taxable receipts and continual jobs lost. We need a government that can worry more about the hundreds of potential jobs created vs. the nationality of the owner of the entity. What good does it do to brag that "we kept Steve Wynn out of our country," rather than bragging, "We got Steve Wynn to invest $500M in creating a tourism jewel, and now look at ALL of the Bahamians employed because of all the new tourists that want to come see the new attraction!" Global vs. isolation. The former will make the country prosper, the latter will allow the poor and growing poorer to brag about how they keep this country to themselves. Soon, the reason that "immigration" will be an issue, is because with no jobs, the natives will flee to islands and countries that can allow them to survive, leaving a lot of empty buildings for whoever may want to come in (and be turned away, of COURSE!).

1.) A financial Backer - we all know who backs the FNM and PLP parties, if a serious 3rd Party was to emerge they need a group of backers will to invest 5-10million .
2.) Self -dependent - Our Bahamian society need to stop relying on the government to do things for us. If a 3rd party is formed, based on creating the right economic environment and a smaller private sector the general public won't vote for them. Bahamians need to understand, the more the government does, the more taxes will have to increase.
3.) A Single or Series of Serious Events - As history has taught us, there will have to be a collection or a single event that will change the consciousness of the general public. Its my hope that it's not anything violent but sometimes it is.
Reply to Wake Up Reader: I agree that we has a people need to think not only about white collar jobs, but other industries that are on the rise. Does anyone else follow the Commodities and have seen what has happened to Corn, Oil and cotton?

@Concerned About Our Future: You misunderstand me. That is not the way I have voted but what I will vote for. At least to me that says someone is thinking out of the box as they say, and considering some sort of a plan. Who will make up this third party, rejects from the other parties? Can't deal with these nameless people who want to be involved in politics for their own personal gain not for something they can offer the country (whatever that means).

A change is needed in the bahamian government.Whether it means new leadership or new people. For to long we have sacrificed our people and our homeland for the name of PLP and FNM. The day has come where crime is at a all time high, the job market is down and tourism is suffering. All of this lies in the hands of the government. We need to get it right before the next term for government.

Bahamian people are limited thinking people, they dont think , FNM and PLP they dont have any solutions for the proper functioning of the country, election time is the blame game time. Education structure is very weak in the bahamas, only one college that too expensive, thats why plenty people give away the studies. country is just runnning by itself,I blame the ministers, all of them are lawyers, To run a country you no need to be lawyer,You should be the person who understand the need of the country, how to eliminate unemployment,how to bring up the business, how to export, how to industrialise, everyone is taking shelter on somebody, we should know how to get commodities cheaper from around the world, we should have saving schemes, our people should be thinking about white collar jobs, not thinking about hotel industry or serving jobs. engineers and scientists shold be created from our own land, than only this country can proper.

We need a real serious alternative with good and sound policies for the loNg overdue development of The Bahamas, and not just Nassau, Freeport and Abaco, but the entire Bahamas. I love the FNM, and Prime Minister Ingraham, but just like the the PLP, they have run out of ideas to develop The Bahamas Islands like Acklins, Mayaguana,Andros etc.
The capital should be relocated to Andros. We need some white people in the leadership of this new alternative party. White people can really push this country forward. I speak as a proud Black man! Let's stop the race bating, and hatred for the good of our Bahamas!!!

What is the FNM and the PLP doing about this serious issue.
Hatians especially is takiing over our Country, and the Politicians are allowing it.
Branville McCartney seem to be the only one who is concerned about thios issue, every one else is avoiding it. Perry ctitic the Government about the Barefoot Bandit, Perry that is small thong why aren't you talking about our Immigration problem.
Ther must be a reason why Both Parties don't want to touch this.
Whoever is brave enough to do somehing about this issue will be the Next Prime Minister.
