Title: Knowledge is a big part of the answer
We need real change not Mafia sponsored, Illuminati recognized change.
remember when you cant or wont think for yourself you will be taken advantage of.
Love may be the ideal thing in life but Love works best with Knowledge to maintain what you have and to get what you dont have. Like freedom, equal rights, fair pay and fair working conditions, transparency, freedom of information, affordable health care not universal healthcare, healthcare that is responsible thru rigorous testing of its products so that we the people will know whether or not we are intentionally being poisoned or not.
Knowledge is a big part of the answer. My people stop being dumb as sheep (followers) but ratherr seek after knowledge to be leaders of your own homes, communities.
Because the Elitists the small minority, privileged few in this country dont care about us only the Money.

Title: Banking laws
In order to borrow money for a home or car, I must secure the loan with a down payment, the bank holds the title until paid off and I must buy life insurance for the full amount, my money included. This is all so wrong on so many levels.
It is next to impossible for any poor Bahamian with integerity and limited resources to elevate themselves in this country.
I was once told that any person in the Bahamas, their family member or their ancestor, regardless of race has committed fraudlent acts of some kind which enabled them to be successfully financially.
The trafffic in Nassau is fustrating to say the least. Understandable when persons are going to work for 9:00 am and leaving work @ 5:00 pm. Not so understandable at 3:00 pm in the afternoon.
All over Nassau, in the Government and Private sector, persons with limited and unlimited means leave their jobs every day for school pick ups. I find it very fustrating to go into a Government office at 3:15 pm only to be told that I must wait for someone to return from lunch, aka school pick up. Not only is producitivity down at this time, which is a huge inconvenience for the consumer, the roads are fustrating to drive on as well.
The sad part of this all, is that it has become such common practise in this country for us all to leave our jobs and I'm not talking about emergencies, I'm talking as a routine everyday we leave our jobs to pick up our children from school.
If we had a reliable and safe school bus system, we would find that our private and government ran business were more effective and efficient on a daily basis.
These 2 issues along with crime are uppermost in my mind. The party whose interested and committed to placing a tight grip on crime, reforming the Banking Laws and implementing a school bus system much like other 21 century countries will certainly have my vote.

Title: Fine Bahamians who hire Illegal Immigrants.
I cry shame on the FNM and the PLP, none of them are doing anything about Illegal Immigrants. OUR children dont have jobs because of them . Our Bahamian people would rather hire a hatian before he hires a bahamian, they are very shot sighted because they are not aware that these hatians will take over this country, take their businesss, because there are more of them than us, and their women from time was having a baby every year. We need to impose very heavy fines on all bahamians who hire these immigrants, and we have to stop giving out these work permits so easily.
You need to check out Atlantis, hatians have the job for cleanibg in the evening...and all of them are not legal.

Bahamians dont be no fool, he had better deport them by the thousand, not hundred's, because we know there are many immigrants here. WE are watching you Brent...Election is around the corner, and you dont have to many hatians to vote in your area, so they can ensure that you will get your seat.

all the Government workers who are selling our Country out to illegals

Title: RE: NO MINISTER OF HAITIAN PARENTAGE
@ JULIAN.....Has a very good point!! It's been overwhelmingly proven that obviously we cannot continue putting Haitian Bahamians in Government or other positions of power because they will always look out for Haitians over Bahamians. We should concentrate on electing only REAL BAHAMIANS to these positions. At the current rate, Bahamians will soon be weeding yards for Haitians in The Bahamas. How will we explain to our grand-children how The Bahamas became a Creole state??? GET THE HAITIANS OUT OF GOVERNMENT NOW- AT ALL COST!!!
Posted By: JULIAN On: 8/25/2010
Title: NO MINISTER OF HATIAN PARENTAGE
I have a better idea, the best of both parties should form anew party. However I am not comfortable with any MP who have ties with Hatians, because they will always be loyal to hatians. Mr. Muncur stated in the debate that He, Perry, Fred Foulkes, and a few othersb had hatian parentage. If these people along with other Hatian Bahamians, will ensure that more hatians become citizens and more of their children have bahamian status. We have enough of these immigrants in our country, so we need MP'S who will look out for bahamians, not the other illegal immigrants

Title: a few points
while i agree that the bahamas does need a change on the political scene, i cant help to wonder why everyone thinks mr mccartney is the man for the job...if i can recall is he not basically doing what mr. (shane) gibson had started....yes he was accused of miscondut but it was never proven...i thought he was doing a pretty good job.
Mr mcartney is a very intelligent man and i think he would be an excellent politician, my only concern is it appears that he is also motivated by publicity and once a camera is a round he will say and do what he has to make himself shine...many of the persons make mention that they do not want another lawyer......well isnt mr. mccartney just that a lawyer ...dont get me wrong i am not downplaying the job he was doing i am just saying what qualifies him to lead a country today....i think he is well on his way however i dont think just yet maybe 2017 but i dont think he is ready right now
2nd point
so many people are citing the illegal immigration as our major problem......HOWEVER we are only focusing on the haitians....if the average Bahamian stops for a second i am sure everyone knows at least one Jamaican, Cuban, African, Chinese or some one from another country who is here illegally....THE PROBLEM WILL NEVER BE SOLVED UNTIL WE AS BAHAMIANS STOP ACCEPTING THEM HERE AS CHEAP LABOURERS, (adult) ENTERTAINERS, SWEETHEARTS male and female, OR FRONTING BUSINESSES FOR THEM.....everyone in the world who is from an impoverished nation and desires to get to the US will realize that the Bahamas' proximity to the US makes us a desirable hub to hold over until they can sneak in........SO WHEN BAHAMAINS stop looking to make a quick buck smuggling them to the US it will also help to curb the illegal immigration problem
last point..........and just my humble opinions .......while i support the plp i am all for the bahamas becoming a bit more republic in the electoral process where we vote for a leader and then vote for mp's.....

Title: A REAL Alternative Please
It has been said and it needs to continue to be said that the government should include members of the business sector, professionals trained in economics, hospitality industry etc., and minimize the amount of lawyers to those areas of government where necessary. This new group should seriously consider what the public is saying and offer a REAL alternative in order to stand a chance to overturn the tables in their favour. Bahamians by and large vote for the party of their following but times have changed, we are growing very tired of the mud throwing, the time wasting, the lack of planning, the old guard who insists in staying behind with old political tactics. A growing number of Bahamians are embracing technology, the wide world web where in seconds information is published, retrieved, and used. The world stopped being distant with the arrival of the home computer and the internet in the mid 90s and it keeps moving forward and growing. We do need younger blood in government but the existing two groups and any new group need to realized that now they are and will be dealing with a better informed citizen, a younger citizen as well, a citizen who is experiencing hardship, fearful on how to make ends meet, how to feel safe, how to find a job, how to pay school fees, how to pay medical needs. We are tired of having representatives who only come around our doors when the campaign is on or offer an appliance or a blue marlin for our vote, that I hope is yesterday news. It is time we have a government that can take us out of third world country and into second or better still first world. If this new group don´t come out offering us a REAL alternative........then please don´t bother.

Title: Wake up my people
Hello All,
I have perused through alot of the comments and agree with most. But I had to put in my 5 cents. The problem with most of our Bahamian people is our dependency on what the Government can do for us. But if you stop looking at the surface and dig deep you will see that we are in troble. The flux of illegal immigrants is not the only issue, it's what they do when they get here. You know the saying when in Rome do what the Romans do. Well the majority of them dont. I know of a Hatian village that has electricity, water crowded huts that of course did not abide by our building codes. How did they get occupancy permits??? Because anyone who has built a house knows that you need an occupancy permit to get BEC and Water, not to mention they have their own shops so that they wont even have to come out of the village and yet nothing is done about this. WHY? We are too complient.... where are the peaceful actovists? you know marching in Rawson square demanding that something be done. The Government does nothing because we sit quietly. Complain under our breaths and grumble. I overheard a Hatian talking to someone in Creole (not knowing that my neice understood them) talking about how stupid Bahamians are and how weak we are. This is serious people, I am not saying this for us to hate but this is our land and our children have to live here. It appears that they are want to Conquer and Divide. Are we as Bahamians going to sit and pretend like nothing is wrong? I love all people but it's not fair for you to come into a country and not abide by the rules. Think about it can they go in America and build a hut and get light and water without permits? Our Government, no matter who it is, first needs to ENFORCE the law. In every situation and every problem that exists there is a solution. The problem is no one wants to get on the "wrong side" of anyone. We need discipline! enforcement of the law, proper structuring in the legal system...we DONT need pretty roads (wake up people we pay taxes to have proper roads) it is the government's duty to fix the roads. We need to get past the baby feeding on the breast stage and move onto solid food. Stop voting for who fix up the most roads and bring in the most jobs. We need to vote for people who are willing to reform and bring structure and not be afraid to make changes.

I totally support a new political party once it has the right persons forming the same. Bahamians are totally fed up with the same old parties changing the guard so to speak. Look at the results for the Elizabeth constituency bye-election in February, approx. 1900 persons did not even go out to vote because they were frustrated with the system. Either they form a new party or join up and support the smaller ones we have now. I am a thorough supporter of the BDM and i think given a chance they can make a change.

Title: March On Bahamaland!!
It took me a few hours, all of the comments are passionate, and all agree that we need change in the Bahamas. The problem? How we're going to acheive that change. Many give reference to President Obama,(because he's half black, or black to some) when it comes to dealing with illegal Haitians, I don't think that a fair comparision, I think a fair comparison will be how Americans deal with Mexicans is a better comparison. I left the Bahamas almost 20 years ago, although I visit on many occasions and what I see is the same like 20 years ago, even when it come to the last names of those in the political arena, except for a few 'new' names. Unlike the U.S the bahamas supposely have less than 400K population, with limited resources, and jobs when there are hundred of illegal immigrants (mostly Haitians) invading our shores (Bahamas) every week, that IS a problem, it does not matter their success after arrival. We as Bahamians are tolerant and decent people, however, when we see our country future being strategically taken away from us, whether its from lack of action from our Government or from foreign powers, WE ACT. I can say for a fact many Bahamians living abroad still contribute to the Bahamas in many ways. As a college Adviser, I've been heartbroken by 'type' of Bahamians coming abroad to get an education. Am all for a new party, however by new I don't mean just a new name. New ideas, vision, taking the Bahamas to the next level, expanding commerce and good jobs to every Island of the Bahamas not just Nassau and Freeport. A new direction for native Bahamians on islands such as Abaco, Spanish Wells and others, Illegal is illegal, regardless of skin color. Truth be told MANY BAHAMIANS WANT TO MOVE BACK. I interviewed recently for a job in the Bahamas the Director don't know how to use a computer! (she admit) I was told I have too much education for the position. (can someone say job security) That said, we as Bahamians must get educated, or more education if we planned on continuing 'running' the Bahamas. The problem the old 'Klan' with deep ties to these parties both FNM & PLP will not give us a chance. In the U.S millions of offsprings from the KKK still exist and is fighting in stratigic ways to "get things back like they was". For us (youth Bahamians) to be getting drunk and high 24/7 not thinking that those who enslaved our parents want to do the same to us is more tragic than 500 illegal immigrant coming to our shoure daily, because if "push come to shove" who side you think they (illegal Haitians) gonna be on... ITS CALL DIVIDE AND RULE!

I hate to say this but we have a whole lot of dumb, uneducated people in the Bahamas if not all the majority.
Why i say this? Its stupid and dumb to ask for 1 man or woman over a ministry like Tommy T to be fired. Um, excuse me who is doing most of the work in the Security field.
I thought it was the people who do most of the work in the trenches the police officers, and prison guards, and defence force officers and the Board of Directors or the Heads of the Departments like say Colonel, liutenant and so forth. These are the people you ask to be fired who are not doing their jobs properly. If they are not discipline them with a few chances, if they dont shape up ship the bad officers and their leading officers out, Duh!
Those who ACTUALLY run the various departments they are the ones you scrutinize, constructively criticize, and review.

Title: Bahamas was never a 1st world country.
Bahamas was never a 1st world country. Definition of 1 ST world country is: Since its original definition, the term First World has come to be largely synonymous with developed and/or highly developed countries.
1ST World countries are industrial countries. What is so industrial about the Bahamas? What do we export that is making tons of money for our economy and GDP? Dont say fishing because the Dominicans stay teefing and poaching our fish, conch and crawfish and Deence Force een doing nothing about it and Nothing about illegal immigration.
The Family islands are not developed because they are not self sustaining. Always relying on New Providence.
Bahamas is a 3 RD world country, was bordering on 2ND but we cant get ourselves modernized yet.
So where are we headed folks if we are not moving Upward, Onward, and Together as our Crest and motto goes? It seems downdard, backward, and divided.
Wake up and smell the Nani all around you. Open your mind, and see the mess thats going on in our country. Come on man, we struggling with the Basics in everything in Bahamian life. Our people are Too Uneducated, too emotional, unreasonable and illeterate. Thank you.

Title: What is needed
We, Bahamians, at least all of us who have the right and opportunity to vote in general elections, need to confer with each other so that we all can become aware of our real needs, all over this country. Then we ought to develope a long term development/social plan and decide who amoung us is most capable of executing the plan. Candidates for such elections should be chosen on the basis of proven performance/ability after they would have passed the 'character' hurdle. FNM nor PLP per se is anointed by the Almighty.

Title: Politics as usual...
Sometimes i wonder how the Bahamas would operate if our political system was Republic, in that we have a President, one person runnign for themselves with fresh new ideas to bring about change and progress, a house of assemply represented by MP's voted in based on what they can do for their particular constituency and not what party they favor, and the Senators voted in by the public to verify particular bills that would be put forth by the House of Assembly. Also, I think that the role of a Governor General should be terminated, because as far as i'm concerned, their role is completely redundant. We don't vote for them, but yet we pay them with our tax dollars? The purpose of the Governor General is for Beurocracy Purposes ...people that are being paid by OUR taxdollars need to ELECTED, and NEVER selected.
Posted By: Alex On: 8/11/2010
Title: Maybe
Well of course as many I already support one of the Political Parties here but we do need change. If a party where to be formed that had good leadership, a young mature membership group and has items such as a term limit for the Post of PM on its to do list, I would lean towards that party. The FNM and PLP have become to relaxed. Here we are in a state of uncertainty, with all negative levels such as crime on the rise and it seems that the Government of the Day has no solutions and the Opposition believes that word only means to stand up in the house of assembly and say no. So when the dust settles, yes I would consdier voting for a new party.

The PLP & FNM have proven beyond all doubt that they are totally incapable of protecting The Bahamas against the ongoing onslaught of this Haitian INVASION. RBDF detained 500 Haitians in the past 10 days trying to enter The Bahamas. Usually a Country i.e. The U.S. estimate they capture about 10% of illigals trying to enter the U.S. Using this detection and capture figure as a rule of thumb, one can guesstimate that 5,000 Haitians entered The Bahamas illigally in the past 10 days. We need to put a Government in place to stop this invasion!!! The PLP & FNM WILL NOT DO IT.... & MUST BE REMOVED!!!

If you answered the Politician, you are wrong.Reading the HOLY SCRIPTURES help you to understand that the BORROWER IS SLAVE TO THE LENDER.Those who hold the Bahamas DEBT has real control. The next time you see your politician running to sign something(without your consent) by a foreign power, then remember who has control. If we are to save the Bahamas we must know who are the real enemies.Only a real Nationalist who love our country will tell you the truth.Every Bahamian who has access to a computer must start to educate themselves about
the plan to control nations. If you do not want to seek the truth for yourself, then do it for your children.Start at the web site called educate-yourself.org...THE TRUTH SHALL SET US FREE!!!

WE need new party with new blood, but please ensure that they are not hatian bahamian, I think we have enough of them in power. We dont want the hatians to take over our country.

Title: New Party No Attorneys
I would vote for a new party provided the new political party is similar to the CDR in it make up and vision.
The FNM and PLP are full with Attorneys. Attorneys believe the way to fix problems is to pass more laws and they stay with tradition and do things the same old way. This is why the Bahamas has not made any changes to our Legal system or to our style of government in the 30 plus years of independence.
The Bahamas already have a lot of laws on the book which are not being enforced.
Neither the FNM nor the PLP will bring any new ideas to the governance of the Bahamas, as both party Leaders and member like the status quot
I believe a new party, made up of a new blood would change this country for ever.
Another change I would like to see, which would change our political arena is for us to be able to elect our member of the senate (senators).

But one commenter said that Ingraham did the RRIGT THING after haiti earthquake...but enough is enough, We BAHAMIANS have to survieve in our Country, but we are out numbered by Hatians, My question is who is INGRAHAM's loyalty to BAHAMIANS OR HATIANS? If INGRAHAM is not prepared to do anything about them, then my next question is ...WHY?...I am sure someone out there knows the answer.

There was a long ago article that headlined "Country For Sale".
Well guess what ?, that was loonnggg ago. today, the country is SOLD.
Just look at proposals for BTC, BEC, ARAWAK CAY, etc. (more to follow)
Due to our high indebtedness to foreign concerns, we are being coerced
to siphon of all our National utilities and/or resources in order to remain
solvent.
No politician can ever save us now. It is up to us and whomever steps
forward and offers a sane, achievable alternative for us to wake up
as a people and turn this runaway train around.

Title: We need ingraham
the problems we face are largely due to global downturns - wars recessions etc. ingraham is getting progressively smarter macroeconomically. for example when obama tried his stimulus package on keynesian principles he obtained corporate greed - ingraham did not make that mistake - his tax moves favoured the poor he raised taxes on hotel rooms which hits the corporations/ hotels liquor etc. he did not target essentials like food. he is wide awake and getting tactically smarter. so why derail him to put a rookie in. also both tony blair and the iron lady made sweeping health reforms announced over the tv without consulting health secretaries in both instances unquestionably correct moves which did not allow powerful interest groups like doctors to derail them. Ingraham did similarly when the haitian earthquake happenned. he did what was right even though it may have harmed him politically. he seems to care more about the population than his own political prospects.

Title: All about the Do Re Mi $$$$
Change all the politicians you want.. There will always be greed.. Give a new party a chance to win and yes they might be good for a year or so, then after that the power of the lean green $$ will corrupt them as they have corrupted both the PLP and the FNM. Politics is a joke, and the joke is on the people of the Bahamas.. But it is truly worth it to give a third party a try, I think in most countries this would shake up the establishment and career politicians... so it's worth a try.. I no longer live in the Bahamas, but see it turning to a sewer more and more everyday.. Good luck Bahamas..

Title: The Best Stay Away
The truth is that the best people to lead our country are keeping themselves out of politics because of the way Bahamians act. People are calling for change, but if the best were to run and do the things that are needed, most Bahamians would complain to no end. So, what we end up getting is egomanics who are into politics for themselves and to satisfy their egos. Some, especially many of the younger ones, don't have a clue!!

Title: Stick with the PLP/FNM Situation
Sad to say, that its in the country's best interest to stick with the PLP and FNM as the major political parties. Indeed, we need people who know about government and people who understand that issues in government are more complex than all of the novices seem to think. Some say that Pindling didn't have any experience implying that they should be given a chance. However, Mr. Pindling was in Parliamnt for 11 years and was a very key part of the many labour and civil rights movements within the country. The fact that those people cannot see the difference between themselves and other like Pindling is proof that they are unable to properly assess and evaluate situations. Alot of that comes with time. So, although what we have is not as good as we would like, I think we had better stick with the PLP and FNM because anything else (given the names being tossed about) will surely be worse by far.

Title: we need a new party
There is no real vision inside the FNM and PLP for the future of our country. Both parties are basically reacting to the past and to whatever they think will get them votes in the next election. We are a ship without a rudder. 4500 + - young adults complete high school each year. We are not creating the jobs needed to put them to meaningful work. We will have serious civic problems if we do not get on a course that leads to a better standard of living for the majority of our citizens. The Bahamas is quickly moving from first world to third world status in almost every measure.

By the way, I wonder if any representatives from any of those parties are reading these comments? Looks like something new might happen on the political horizon. People tired of being sick and tired. We have persons sitting in the House of Assembly who are afraid to make decision on crime, finances and illegal immigration that will cause our kids in the long run. We wonder why our children who go off to College or University prefer to stay aboard and not return home.

Title: Our Only Hope Is A Long Range Solution
To think we can instantly solve 4 decades of political stupidity in the short term with just one election is unrealistic. Bahamians could plan to have a "SENSIBLE" Government after another 5 to 10 years. The PLP & FNM unquestionably failed The Bahamas and Bahamians in every aspect of Governance. In fact, if Messer’s Pindling, Ingraham and Christie were CEO's of any corporation, they would have been fired several times over. "IF" a third party should emerge with enough talent to run the Country for 1 or 2 terms, this would give the PLP & FNM time to restructure and might produce 2 or possibly 3 serious political parties for the Country in the long term. To continue bouncing back and forth from bad to worse (PLP-FNM-PLP-FNM-PLP) have proven to be a failure. We must break the ongoing failing cycle, and move on or continue down the road to absolute failure.

We need a change from the PLP & FNM even if only for 5 years to allow the PLP & FNM to get rid of the dead wood and regroup. There are too many problems in the Country that are going unsolved i.e. The Bahamas has been allowed to be over-run by Haitians by the PLP & FNM, tourism is is dire need of redirection and serious new development, B.E.C., water & sewage, BTC, Bahamasair, education, health, RBDF and many other problems have been out of control for decades. We should put the 3rd party in and allow the PLP & FNM to regroup. Surly a 3rd party can't fail anymore than the PLP & FNM has!!

Title: Party needed with global view.
The Bahamas needs a government with knowledgable decision makers that can take a global view of government.
Currently, the FNM gives the perception that it is run by the native people of the Bahamas, but they have no working knowledge about governing beyond the "good olde boys" network. You're my friend? I rule in your favor. No long term view for future disaster plans, such as the travesty that was the Katrina debacle, where relief was arriving in the form of hard goods, but no one knew what to do with them, or where to send them. Ok, that time has passed. Has there been ANYTHING done to alleviate such a situation for the future? Is there a written PLAN for how to handle donations so that the government doesn't just sit back and try to collect customs taxes on donations, while the people are in dire need?
The PLP, on the other hand, have the sad moniker of emulating the worst of the American crooked politicians. The perception is that the only care what legislation can favor the PLP and its supporters, the rest of the (black) population be damned. Like it or not, the Bahamian people are truly a caste society. There are the HAVE-A-LOTS, and the HAVE-VERY-LITTLES. The PLP will work hard to insure that the HAVE-A-LOTS get to HAVE-MORE, while the consideration for the HAVE-VERY-LITTLES seems to be, "they don't have any money, so they can't do much about anything I want to do.." and the PLP marches on to the tune of the HAVE-A-LOTS. And unfortunately, the "rich" contingent comprises the minority of the population, but the majority of the riches.
There is definately a NEED for a political party that governs with as "even" a hand as can be effected in this disparate society. The Bahmian people don't need politicians that will "create new crimes," that more often than not will penalize the poor while protecting the rich. There needs to be a party which will protect and serve the PEOPLE of the Bahamas, NOT just one end of the economic ladder at the expense of the other end. And WHOEVER ends up governing, needs to start running the government with a more global approach, vs. an isolationist view.
"Bahamas for Bahamians," is just plainly ignorant in this globalization of the world's economy. It is this very view that has kept the (formerly) Princess Casino and resorts un-owned, un-operated, and costing the people of the Bahamas in tourism, taxable receipts and continual jobs lost. We need a government that can worry more about the hundreds of potential jobs created vs. the nationality of the owner of the entity. What good does it do to brag that "we kept Steve Wynn out of our country," rather than bragging, "We got Steve Wynn to invest $500M in creating a tourism jewel, and now look at ALL of the Bahamians employed because of all the new tourists that want to come see the new attraction!" Global vs. isolation. The former will make the country prosper, the latter will allow the poor and growing poorer to brag about how they keep this country to themselves. Soon, the reason that "immigration" will be an issue, is because with no jobs, the natives will flee to islands and countries that can allow them to survive, leaving a lot of empty buildings for whoever may want to come in (and be turned away, of COURSE!).

Title: Insight
In order for a 3rd party to be successful a few things need to happen:
1.) A financial Backer - we all know who backs the FNM and PLP parties, if a serious 3rd Party was to emerge they need a group of backers will to invest 5-10million .
2.) Self -dependent - Our Bahamian society need to stop relying on the government to do things for us. If a 3rd party is formed, based on creating the right economic environment and a smaller private sector the general public won't vote for them. Bahamians need to understand, the more the government does, the more taxes will have to increase.
3.) A Single or Series of Serious Events - As history has taught us, there will have to be a collection or a single event that will change the consciousness of the general public. Its my hope that it's not anything violent but sometimes it is.
