POLICE are trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding the murder of a serving Royal Bahamas Defence Force officer last night.
The officer was ambushed by three armed men as he approached the door of his home at Pineyard Road. The victim, according to police, attempted to escape the assailants, but was pursued and collapsed.
As police briefed the media last night at the scene, people believed to be relatives could be heard weeping as they were overcome with grief.
Sometime after 8pm, police were called to Pineyard road as a result of a shooting incident.
“On arrival of our officers they found a male lying on the verge of the street suffering from gunshot wounds,” Press liaison Superintendent Audley Peters said at the scene of the incident. “The Emergency Medical Services came to the scene and following their assessment they determined that there were no signs of life.
“Our investigations thus far indicate that the victim had just arrived home when he was approaching his door. Three suspects armed with firearms approached him and discharged their weapons at him.
“He attempted to run however he collapsed on the verge where the officers found him.”
Mr Peters continued: “At this juncture we can confirm that the victim was a serving member of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.
“The criminal procedure code requires us to follow a certain protocol and so we cannot divulge his identity until identification by a next of kin.
“We ask members of this community who may hear, see or know of any details concerning this event to contact our police department at 502-9991 or 2 or walk into the Elizabeth Estates Police Station where they can communicate with Chief Superintendent Damian Robinson who is the area commander or anyone at that station.”
Mr Peters said he was unable to divulge the victim’s identity or age.
He was also unable to say whether this was an armed robbery gone wrong.
“We do not know the details. We are led by some information at this time as we put the pieces together. At some point we would know the cause of this incident.
“We are following significant leads. This investigation seems to be promising. All the details must come together and we have to get the information from other stakeholders to know what happened, who is responsible, what is the cause of this incident and bring it to some closure so that we can get the adjudication process started.
Commodore King said it was a tragic event and he extended condolences to the family.

A military man was gunned down in full uniform and, for the country it’s business as usual. Not long ago when these daring murders occurred, the narrative was. “It’s nothing to be highly concerned about. It’s one set of bad guys killing up another set of bad guys. Gang wars, turf wars. But the general public is safe. But is the general public safe. If one was to examine the profiles of a number of the last murder victims, they don’t appear to be gangsters or drug dealers even. Many were gainfully employed and into family life. Now officers in uniform getting gunned down and hardly and public or official outcry.

You sit right there and believe that. Whereby it is extremely sad that this even had to happen but one cannot swear for these people whether in uniform or not! The question is why? What did he do that 3 men came after him and pursued him to his death? Most gangsters are well dressed, gainfully employed and in to family life. Never judge a book by it's cover.

The book is not being judged by its cover except by you to make nasty insinuations. But if a person is wearing the military uniform of this country and is gunned down by three armed gunmen, then that should concern the top brass and every citizen. Firstly was he killed for matters as a private citizen? Was he executed because he executed his duties as a marine? Was it an armed robbery gone wrong. And the fact that he was fully attired makes it even more urgent to find out the motive for his death. When you attempt to justify murder, that’s how the rate got to where it is now.

If you read or listen to other reports then that is the information given. Unfortunately police are on the scene of yet another murder.

The unspoken reality is that many of our uniformed officers have links with criminality.
We may never know why this marine was gunned down in this manner. Too much corruption in RBDF & RBPF that is covered up by top officials.

I am starting to believe that there are too many foreign ‘agents’ operating in this country attempting to justify their actions if murder and create the impression that the killers are all Bahamians. If persons are being killed for crimes that do not include murder, then what should be the penalty for cold-blooded murderers who kill them?

It is a simple solution.
The Parliament needs to pass a law making our Court of Appeal the highest court for ALL criminal matters. Then do away with the hindrance of the Privy Council.
Then enforce the death penalty and hang murderers.
Or is it that our MPs are afraid to do that???
