Bahamas resident ‘reverses ageing process’

BILLIONAIRE fashion designer and Bahamas resident Peter Nygard says he is getting younger - after he reversed the ageing process using stem cells.

Mr Nygard was in Freeport yesterday attending the STEMSO Conference.

He told The Big T: “Stem cells are being used for anti-ageing and the University of Miami is doing a study about that to prove that it is true. They are looking at me, and my markers have shown exactly that I have been actually reversing my ageing and getting younger.”

Mr Nygard’s visit came eight months after his first trip to Grand Bahama, and he arrived unexpectedly at the convention centre in the Grand Lucaya Resort around 11am with his small personal media entourage.

A number of leading medical professionals and scientists are here attending the conference, which opened on Thursday.

In contrast to his fanfare visit here last July, Mr Nygard, accompanied by a small camera crew and personal assistants, quietly entered the conference room and sat at the back. He was wearing his usual signature white shirt and blazer.

Mr Nygard, a resident of Lyford Cay, has been pushing for stem cell research and therapy in the Bahamas.

He believes that the STEMSO conference in Freeport is an excellent start towards the road of international recognition for the Bahamas in stem cell research.

During an interview with The Big T, he said: “I am so very pleased that this was organised and put together. This an excellent start to international recognition for this country as being the centre of the world for stem cell therapy and research - it’s a good kick off.”

When asked about his plans concerning stem cell research, he said: “Yes, we have plans; they’re pretty big plans and they sometimes take a long time to develop.

“I am personally very committed to this agenda as you may know. I have been here from the start of it and I am here now to lend support in whatever way I can to this whole industry.

“I am very anxious to get the Bahamas to be the medical centre of the world for stem cells and whatever I can do in that regard, I am going to do.”

Mr Nygard has been taking stem cell treatments for several years. His treatments, he said, are for anti-ageing.

“I am taking perhaps more stem cell treatment than anybody else in the world. I have been doing it for four years now, so I am sort of a testimonial that this stem cell really works.”

Mr Nygard commended Prime Minister Perry Christie and his government for implementing and passing legislation for stem cell research and therapy in the Bahamas.

“The PM has done an excellent job; he has been very visionary about it. They pushed a very difficult legislation through, and I think the significance of it is that he wants to protect the whole industry from snake oil people,” he said.

He said the legislation is very important because it will keep all those who do not qualify out.

“The legislation will guarantee that only the very top people come in here. And when you get the top scientists and top medical doctors here, then top clients and patients will come here as well,” he said.

Geez, if they are using him as a test case you can can it, After that video self injection of God knows what with no medical assistant around to record the time of the injection, the contents injected, and the amount injected, what kind of research department wants to be associated with that? And who is the placebo case? Maybe a few million, a good diet, conch salad, and some good Bahamian sea air does wonders for the aging process...

Being photographed with Comrade Peter has become a magnet for government officials. Some scientific research thing the government of we Bahamaland seems to have gotten behind, when non scientific research facts are not required to be produced as rsearch evidence, before a much too controversial "fashion designer" to the likes of many Bahamalander's, can publicly state while being photographed in the presence of government officials, how he is getting younger, after "he" Comrade Peter has done reversed he own aging process using stem cells. I could thick of some other places Comrade Pete should be stick'in some larger does of he anti-aging needles up. And pretty sure when he bends over there will be government officials at close proximity to lend some helping injecting hands.

Tis no wonder why Pete and Papa could never get on center stage together. Our very own son of Bahamaland Comrade "Pop Symonette's" Brent probably has more liquid tax-free cash at his disposal than does Canadian "teenager" Pete but what a difference how the two rich men go about doing things. Pop never flaunted his wealth and if you didn't know Brent was far beyond rich, you'd never know by the way he carries himself. Good God almighty even when Brent was DPM; he never flew into Freeport with such loud, want be noticed fanfare. Pete seems to have Papa's need to be noticed. When Papa was to be arriving was like the Queen of England must me coming.

Sorry to disagree with all of the above comments. Many scientists world-wide are touting the idea of stem cell research being the next big thing - and I am grateful that Mr. Nygard is kind enough to fund it here (even if he also has a personal interest).

He does not need to spend his money here. I'm sure there are lots of other countries around the world that would welcome him coming in and setting up laboratories for world scientists to attend and do research. Thank goodness he chose us. And if his enterprise proves fruitful then so much the better for everyone in the world.

At the same time, though, I am very happy to note how well many people are doing in the Bahamas - that they feel high enough on their "horse" to turn up their noses at this gentleman and his investment. The commenters above are chiefs among them. Bahamians must be really getting "up there". No more IMF loans for us.

Not all money is good. I had a convesation with a friend yesterday who told me of a certain govt official with a dark side who is known to be very generous and people like him because he is very generous. My response to him was, interesting they said the same of Ninety Knowles. How many loving fathers would encourage their sons or daughters to accept money from them (No Nygard is not Ninety, the fact that he gives away money does not automatically make him accepted or respectable)

I don't understand. I thought Nygard was speaking internally. I don't think he means he will look twenty years old, once again. That is what women who undergo plastic surgery are trying to accomplish. I just think folks are being snarkish. If he is promoting stem cell research, someone else is into space exploration, Bill Gates is concentrating on malaria, Richard Branson has his thing, and so on, what is the problem?

Not sure where Comrade Pete got his science from but I always thought that to date there has been no convincing evidence done on anyone but animals, that just cause you is injecting yourself in front of cabinet ministers with some kind of anti-aging remedy, it go'in slow down the time before they has call the undertaker for Comrade Pete. I'll bet higher odds than the numbers "bosses" payout, that even Comrade Pete has a Will for who he wants leave his millions to, cause to date ain't nothing credible that man can make which can modify all we growing old, if we lucky to live to a ripe older age. The PLP government with funding from Pete can create an all new research industry, cause dogs make excellent anti-aging lab experiment subjects and the good lord knows we is more than blessed with lots stray dogs running around Nassau Town.

Comrades we don't need Comrade Pete's millions, if we ain't forgetting there are anti-aging substances that can me made from we yams. which we also has plenty of. Whoever said we are limited in we natural resources don't know much stray dogs and we plentiful yams. Just to be clear we don't even have impress no cabinet ministers cause we are the real deal Bahamalander's, who gown up knowing all you need scientifically know about the uses put yam to.

No need to be sorry for disagreeing with other posters. But if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then its a duck. Nygard has some outlandish claims and it is only fair that people question these claims. How much he has donated or contributed to social causes is irrelevant. I don't think any of the comments are suggesting any moral superiority so you need to rethink that. But having a laugh at the nonsense he frequently gets involves is warranted. If he's going to promote stem cell research do it for serious things like diseases affecting kids or Alzheimers or Parkinsons. Not the vanity of anti-aging for himself.

Show the medical world cause they sure as hell is eager for proof, not just in front of PLP government officials who will buy into just about anything any billionaire is selling, your documented clinical trial evidence, conducted under strict controlled conditions on real live human beings. Comrades in the meantime be eat'in ya anti-aging locally grown yams.That yam when it cooked just right, it washes out ya old aging genes, presses your faces back to its youthfulness and cause it still cheap buy, it won't dry out your damn bank accounts.

I'm concerned that the focus here is misguided. There are far greater uses for stem cell therapy other than aesthetic purposes. What about stem cell use in persons with heart disease? What about its use in those with spinal cord injuries? What about its use in persons with leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood disorders? Nothing wrong with wanting to look youthful, but if we're pushing an agenda here, let it be one that's headed in the right direction.

Comrade VS, the deeper is them creases on ya face, the more interesting is your life's story. We also got's lots fruits growing across Bahamaland and since we promote ourselves as the sunny tourists destination, I’d like to recommend that you eat your own sunscreen from the many choices of the Mother Nature’s own sunscreen, easily available found in many locally grown fruits and vegetables.
