Yup. You certainly need no more proof than this incident to show that our Bahamaland is finished.

7

tribanon 2 years, 6 months ago

That D- education of yours has obviously left you without an unbiased account of the history of Christopher Columbus that is grounded in fact as opposed to fiction. And all of that internet browsing you do is unfortunately no substitute for your apparent lack of a good education in your more formative years..

@ Tiribanon: And on what grounds, training, profession and credentials do you base your assessment? Fraud , most certainly. And flaming, unharnessed racism, yes.

As a Bahamian this sickens and embarrasses me. Columbus was responsible for many terrible things, for which he should be held in contempt, but he is also a part of our history, and those of us who wish to pull ourselves out of the primordial sludge of ignorance understand that. Hate and stupidity. Although I’m sure the haters will be writing letters to the editor calling this idiot a “hero”. It’s a New Day!

Applying your logic, the Italians should demolish the coliseum because of the atrocities committed there. However, Italy preserves the amphitheater because it is part of its HISTORY. A country moves into a dangerous place when it starts to cancel History. History, good or bad, is to be learned from not cancelled.

It was Americans who started spreading the propaganda about Chinese being racists. Bahamians know that Chinese will live within a community but they will not mix and mingle. They say to themselves. Even though there are cases of Chinese being married to (Black) Bahamians. Also Black and white peoples being married to Chinese and living in China. The stadium also serves a purpose and is functional. What purpose does the statue of Columbus serve. Especially now that it is suspected that the statue was built with the money of poor, Black slaves who had been duped into paying for it.

0

C2B 2 years, 6 months ago

Dude, you don't even want to know what they think about Black people. It would make you sick. I have spent months in China, lived with hundreds of thousands of them in Vancouver, and personally know hundreds of Chinese from all areas of the Country. Whatever the Americans have said or not said, it does not change the basic fact that they are racists. BTW; they are here for the money because they think Bahamians are suckers.

How sad to see our country descend to these unlawful activities. We are importing the negative attitude of activists in other nations. We cannot rewrite our history. Bahamians must have a better knowledge of our history and be proud of our long and colourful traditions. Christopher Columbus made a contribution as did others over the centuries. This monument and that of Queen Victoria must be better protected. For someone to be able just to mount the statue and damage it and no police or security are around can no longer be tolerated.

6

jamaicaproud 2 years, 6 months ago

I guess you are talking countries like Jamaica huh? Are you proud of the colorful traditions of the Haitians you abuse daily? 'Haitians" who have been "Bahamians" for decades. Only "black" people countries have statues of those who oppressed them.

He is most likely having a manic episode and belongs in a mental institution for short term treatment.

I dont blame him. I blame the lax security, not the people, "the system" that allows police, defence force and prison officers to be 250-400lbs and that allows guardsmen to sleep while their fellow officers are shot dead. Its not "them", its the system of mediocrity that runs throughout the entire country. This is just a result of the promotion of incompetence and incompetence's friends and their incompetent agenda. That system has Dr Minnis as FNM leader choosing senators to represent the opposition. case in point

You ever see the soldiers guarding the tomb of the unknown soldier or Buckingham palace? Those guys look like classic tin soldiers. This man in those systems would have been dead or incapacitated. Im glad he's not dead btw, its not his fault

They probably were deranged and manic. God often uses people we dong expect. Its what the good samaritan is all about. Samaritans were despised, but he's the one man who stopped to help the rich fellow. Paul had "visions" where he was "transported" and saw "beasts with the body of a lion and head of an eagle" (or something like that) what that sound like? Peter was given to "rages". John the Baptist ran about in the wild in animal skin.

This man appears manic. I think his message is bigger than the statue and he doesnt even understand the full of it. Its for the man with the crown and his advisors to recognize and do something. Dont be like Minnis and DAguilar saying this never happen before and dont be like Pharoah either

0

John 2 years, 6 months ago

‘and saw "beasts with the body of a lion and head of an eagle" (or something like that) what that sound like? ‘. In the Bible ‘beast’ refers to a country. And they are represented by aan animal. The eagle is obviously America ) which did not exist in Biblical times, but is often referred to as ‘that strange land where Blacks from Africa will be taken to in great ships and put into slavery for 600 years. The ‘strange land’ also refers to the group of countries acting together to cause slavery. The USA, Canada, France, UK ( which is the Lion beast) and several other nations ( beasts). It follows that the’ Mark of The Beast that is spoken of in the book of Revelation is also the mark of a country or the mark of a group of countries acting together. The Bible also says the mark of the beast is the mark of a man. ‘ who shall be revealed’ In today’s politics and social circles the US is more referenced as Uncle Sam ( a man) who will distribute the ‘mark of the beast .’ Others believe it will be a group of nations acting in unison to usher in the new world order. Satan himself will be at the head of this ‘abomination that causes desolation’ and he will first appear as Christ returning.

0

BigSlick 2 years, 6 months ago

I always assumed the Eagle was Rome (which i guess USA is the modern day Rome). The mark of the beast is the uniforms of Police and Military working on behalf of the Empire. Satan might very well be Trump, appearing as Christ with all his sheep worshipping him!

0

tribanon 2 years, 6 months ago

And down @John's rabbit hole you go. LOL

1

John 2 years, 6 months ago

Trump never proclaimed to be Christ but he will play a significant role in Biblical prophecy. He was instrumental in moving the capital of Israel beck to Jerusalem and was making efforts to have the Holy Temple revuilt on the mount if Jerusalem. Many Bible scholars believe this temple is where the abomination that will cause desolation will occur. This when Satan will make his appearance on earth, pretending to be Christ returned. And of course many will worship the false Christ. Is Trump Satanic?

0

ThisIsOurs 2 years, 6 months ago

You went off the rails. Im not talking about how a theologian would interpret the vision. Im talking about what ordinary people would have thought about an old man in rags dreaming about hybrids or building a gigantic boat because 40 days of rain was coming. I believe some of those biblical characters were manic and were slightly off, it didnt make them less chosen

0

5

ThisIsOurs 2 years, 6 months ago

Im not ashamed. Revolution is happening world over and its almost always never pretty. You have people who feel trapped by a system that continues to give more to the rich and take more and more away from the poor. This is a natural progression. Ive said it before, this country needs to find a way to distribute wealth, not as social assistance but as opportunities for advancement to those on the lower rungs. In the interest of peace and national security. Right now the politicians lawyers accountants and contractors suck up all the money unnecessarily. add in illegal gaming its indidious, it feeds off the poor. How many millions do you really need?

Still trying to find the economic research paper I read a few years ago that documented this very phenomenon through history. At some point the dam breaks

2

ohdrap4 2 years, 6 months ago

People talk about the minimum wage. As bad as it maybe, many earn less than minimum wage because they are hourly workers.

The ones at the top not only pay themselves handsomely but claim personal as business expenses.

So there is a perpetual turnover not only because of the low wages, but because places are run as a plantation, even government agencies.

I recall an old song about the man who could not live in the houses that he build and his shanty home was demolished.

1

ohdrap4 2 years, 6 months ago

And Covid has changed a lot of people, you see people rebelling over covid passports.

I think it is cruel to tell the man who makes 250 a week to pay 22.50 out of that for Covud testing. The ones who make 700 a week probably get that as a benefit.

1

5

ThisIsOurs 2 years, 6 months ago

You are absolutely right. You don't see and yes it has absolutely nothing to do with that Columbus statue. He just got in the way.

As I said, "revolution is never pretty". History leaves a trail of people killed, businesses and properties burned to the ground. Noone is angry at the broken statue, the burned buildings, the destroyed cars or the incidental people. Theyre just in the way of the rolling tide.

This happens over and over and over again. Its happening right now in Haiti.

Impossible here? I bet noone imagined the Columbus statue in Downtown Nassau would have one (non natural disaster) leg removed.

Years ago, around the time of the Venezuela uprising, I said to a friend, what happens when people cant buy bread and they have to stand in line to get food? They responded that we were a long way from that.

We need visionaries and planners

On the one hand, the original inhabitants of these Islands are long gone as a result of “discovery” by Christopher Columbus … BUT on the other hand we are “ALL” (irrespective of race or nationality) here today as a result of such “discovery” … and with a Tourist Economy based on principally based on Sun, Sand and Sea … and now Swimming Pigs … we should exploit “the fact” that he landed here, whilst at the same time effectively communicating “the good and bad” of such “discovery” … as again it is “history” and we are in a unique position to tell it to the World … without the use of a Sledge Hammer, which has caused much embarrassment to many Bahamians.

Columbus' one cataclysmic mistake made The Bahamas epochal as all historical roads of the Western future eons to come has us cemented as that blinding historical light that joins Europe, all the Americas, Caribbean and Africa. We are King of World History on that day October 12th., tell eternity. The world has stamped that day on us and billions wonder at our self vanquished history blotted out us. For two hundred years the Bahamas was a sailor's fresh watering hole then we came, We own that point in history. Bahamian Heritage belongs to the Bahamian people. History is a building upon continuum of dots. But many of us make no mark with our own DNA of history. Columbus, was in search of India by sailing West. Does West Indies or Indians ring a bell. Poor soul was after a sure shorter route to harvest the gems, rugs, tea, gold, silk, and spices of India and Afghanistan only seen by land caravans. Columbus, sure he found India, named indigenous Taino and Carib Indians. Hispaniola, where his brother was cruel was excessively cruel still mine their historical past structures and make millions. Our modern slave history is a matter hundreds of years later.

Spanish philosopher George Santayana is credited with the aphorism, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” Like it or not, Columbus was a part of the history of these islands. If history was still taught in proper perspective, perhaps we would understand the significance of the statue, insofar as it reminds us of " from whence we came" for good or bad. It is not so much about the man, who was a product of his era. Ignorance is bliss. The darker aspects of history should serve to remind us to do better.

History and life is not black or white, many more grays and all shades in between. So it is with Columbus. Not all good and not all bad. He was a product of his times as we all are so looking back with our 21st century mores is skewed at best. The real people who should be angry with Columbus are any descendants of indigenous arawaks who lived here. This statue was a gift from a abolitionist colonial governor who fought tooth and nail with the local White House of assembly and white slave owners for better treatment of slaves even to the point of incarcerating some of them. Have an open mind and educate yourself Bahamas about the nuances of our history.

hmmm... I dunno... that seems backward. Hitler was no joke. Many blacks realize without slavery we wouldnt be in the Bahamas ... so slavery turned out to be a good thing for us... I have to sort through that logic....

Got it. I wouldn't give Hitler any credit at all, he was pure evil, I would phrase it as no matter how bad things get there's hope for better. Despite all that Hitler did to destroy the Jews they prospered and today have their own land. Its the Joseph the pit, the prison, king of Egypt saga. God has the plan and no man can derail it. no matter how hard they try or how crafty or powerful they think they are

Issue here is Security or more accurately the lack of it. Renovations or not, important national structures should always have security present. This lunatic obviously watched too many Taliban propaganda videos. As for Columbus, all the talk about the past is BS because it can’t be changed. He could have destroyed the f..ing statute, it would change nothing. The revisionists among us are another dangerous group that should be under surveillance by ISB before they embrace this domestic terrorism.. bottom line; you have to be able to take the bad with the good.

It’s entirely possible that the Tribune dropped the ball but why has there been no response from the government to this? Or do some of them secretly condone this shameful act?

Now let's get back to Davis and whether he will worship or condemn this criminal act aimed at destroying perhaps the most well known statue in our country of national historical significance. My money is on Davis claiming the perpetrator here was a disgruntled supporter of Minnis and the FNM party made mad in the head by the FNM party's recent disgraceful defeat by the PLP party, yet again. Or perhaps Davis will say nothing at all about this matter in order to keep in step with his do nothing good type of governing so far. Who knows?

The Bahamas' unique roll in World Human and Geographic Civilization was outlawed by the former PLP leadership that lacked the creativity, historical background and broad mindedness to monetize the and invite the new world to our shores. The globe heralds The Bahamas and its flag on 12th, of October. The world demands we reclaim our fate held history that proved transformative in every manna of the destruction for some and glory for other. as we served only as a springboard but a very important springboard. Mindful that blacks sold blacks into slavery foremost, we pray that Brave has the fortitude to reinstate The Bahamas as a cementing pillar that joins worlds and times. The Bahamas with October 12th., is mentioned in all history books across every nation on Earth as our significance that marks something.. We alone could marshal delegates from Spain, Europe, Africa, South and North America on a world heritage day to lay a wreath or build a monument for our lost Arawak civilization. For what it is worth.

Whether Blacks sold Blacks into slavery or not doesn’t legitimize the deep, dark centuries of the cruel and deadly trade of slavery. Neither does it make no less grave the millions and millions of lives that were lost after those slave ships left the western coast of Africa. If there was no slavery, then there would be no need for your claim that ‘Blacks captured and sold other Blacks into slavery.’ And history clearly records that many Africans were tricked, duped and hoodwinked into gettin on those ships, some even being told they were going to meet their gods. In fact one of the early slave ships bore the name ‘Jesus.’ And least you forgot or was never taught, Colombus’ first crew was made up of prisoners who agreed to make the voyage in exchange for their freedom. History books also record that there was an outbreak of General disease, more specifically syphilys, among the native population shortly after the arrival of Colombus. This was a European disease and apparently when Colombus left, he also left the natives untreated and also not knowing what they were suffering from. And least we forget ‘The Tuskegee Experiment.’

So what is the history of white folk in The Bahamas. There were the so called Eleutherian Adventurers who can to the island in search of religious freedom. Did that colony survive or did it die out at some point? Then there were those white folk Black Beard den, who came to the islands to cause ships to wreck then steal their gold and cargo after making the crew ‘walk the plank.’ Then there were those who fled the civil war in the US and settled in the Abacos and Northern Bahamas. And, of course, the set who came during the four to five centuries of slavery. Some had plantations and had slaves to grow crops, including cotton, which still appears from time to time in Adlaide and other parts of the island. Others were directly involved in the slave trade where they met ships coming from Sftica, off loaded its cargo of negro slaves and would then feed and fatten the negroes them for sale into slavery in the US, Canada, south and Central America, Cuba and other parts of the region. There was also the rum runners and drug smuggling was actually going on during slavery. All happened after Colombus came.

@john, perhaps the following will help you to understand your favorite topic more thoroughly.

Before 1492, Africa, like the Americas, had experienced the rise and fall of many cultures, but the continent did not develop a centralized authority structure. African peoples practiced various forms of slavery, all of which differed significantly from the racial slavery that ultimately developed in the New World. After the arrival of Islam and before the Portuguese came to the coast of West Africa in 1444, Muslims controlled the slave trade out of Africa, which expanded as European powers began to colonize the New World. Driven by a demand for labor, slavery in the Americas developed a new form: It was based on race, and the status of slave was both permanent and inherited.

John 2 years, 6 months ago

Obviously your post is skewed and totally false.and whom are you attempting to mislead and deceive, mr false messenger? Where did the people of Africa come from? How can you refer to Africa as one region when it is compromised of many nations, thousands of tribes, hundreds of languages and a plethora of cultures? How about beginning with the history of white, invading savages going into Africa and destroying books and art and historical artifacts? And anything that proved that Africa was more advanced technically than most parts of the world? But go back even a bit further to biblical times and tell your audience where a large population of the African population came from.

0

John 2 years, 6 months ago

BTW AFRICA never had a centralized auth structure, because it was never one nation or even a union of nations that included all the countries of that continent. Another of your attempts to deceive and mislead. How about you start before 1492 and tell your audience why there are two sets of people claiming to be Jews? Here’s a little guidance for you: . . ‘ KJ21 I know thy works and tribulation and poverty (but thou art rich), and I know the blasphemy of them that say they are Jews and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.’

John you re skipping and bouncing around 1000 years of non parallel history. Events took place in French Haiti, Spanish Cuba and British Bahamas 1492-1500-1600-1700-1800-1900-2000, so please pick a zone. My Grandmother Bowleg DOB 1919. GGM Greenleaf 180?, GGGM Mama Dunda 180? she lived to be over 100years. Our modern history is very short.

1

John 2 years, 6 months ago

NOT! Read messenger’s post, then read mines. If you want to make sense of anything then you have to go far back enough to make sense of the origins. So when messenger tried to refer to Africa as one mass historically or culturally or even nationally then that is very misleading, intentionally or otherwise. And here’s another question for you and messenger: Why are white peoples called Caucasians? PS. If you know that or get to learn that, then you would get to understand why there are so many attacks and assaults on certain African peoples and their descendants. Including the AIDS pandemic and the current Covid-19 pandemic

Obviously you speak for yourself as tho is laughing at you or who really needs to feel sorry for you. Obviously when you can’t keep up with the discussion and/or know the truth you try change the narrative. And that is your history. If Minnis or anyone else chooses to erect statues to the annoyance or offense of the people, then the outcome has been clearly demonstrated. For you to even suggest this was Minnis intention put you in an even more sorry state than you were given credit for. How Minnis became the topic of your posts clearly confirms you are confused and, yes, delusional. Where did the name Caucasian originate?

A referendum on legalising of The Numbers Houses was held and rejected by voters in year 2013.
In the very same year of
*2013,
The Colony's Discovery Day Public Holiday was replaced with National Heroes Day and everything like that.
One of the chief co-brains behind The Numbers, got all legalized and everything like that and went on get appointed an Ambassador, sanctioned by both the previous and current governments and everything like that whilst We Colony's Italian Comrade Christopher Columbus was left unguarded over what should've been his 2021** Holiday Weekend. — by Government House's Royal Guards, only to suffer a crude amputation right leg below the knee and everything like that. — Yes?

SIck, evil, tragic to see the vindictive, genocidal leftist hatred vomited by rich, spoiled-brat American communists infecting our beautiful Bahamas.

This will surely impress people considering visiting, to visit elsewhere.

This is the Left telegraphing its murderous intent. It will do more of it, if the people allow it.

The Left is hate. Revenge is its pastime. Genocide is its legacy.

History tells us, 'first the statues, then the people.' Never forget it. Because it's what communists do.

This was his duty for being born, and he did it. From this point only the hidden truth can be told as to why. No matter what happens to him (or what they tell us), from this point onwards he will go down in history as the one who inflicted the damages upon the man, the kingdom, the evil politics and the brainwashing education that this statue represents. If only more of us was this brave. I salute him!

As debate rages over whether this act of vandalism was justified, it is pretty clear from the more extensive Videos of this event that Michael “The Ark Angel” was most likely either on drugs or suffering from mental instability … and as much as we may wish to debate the ramifications of his actions, we should be careful to attribute “intent” to what he did.

‘THE HISTORY BEHIND COLUMBUS STATUE BEING WHERE IT IS: BY ALEXIS CLARKE:

I myself have never heard or read this account until today. If it is TRUE, I say let CHRIS remain where he is and let the story be told IN A PLAK VISIBLE FOR ALL TO SEE.

Many Bahamians question why the Christopher Columbus statue exists and what is the importance behind it being at Government house, and rightly so considering Columbus didn’t discover The Bahamas and also made no positive contribution to what this country is today.

The history of the statue is tied with Sir James Carmichael Smyth, slaves in The Bahamas and another statue the Queen Victoria in parliament square.

Sir James Carmichael Smyth was appointed Governor of The Bahamas in 1829. Smyth was a known sympathizer with the cause of slaves and a keen abolitionist, because of this he found himself to be the enemy of many influential whites.

Smyth also worked to abolish corporal punishment for female slaves, Smyth tried without success to persuade the House of the Assembly to legislate against it.

in 1830 Smyth became aware of cruelty towards female slaves among a group of 77 runaways from the Lord Rolle estate in Exuma. The slaves, who had stolen a boat and fled to Nassau, were seized in Nassau Harbour and tried as runaways. ‬

‪The magistrates who signed the warrant for the punishment of the female slaves were suspended by Smyth. Smyth's actions caused an uproar

Smyth was described as a pre emancipation hero for attacking the atrocities of slavery and providing leniency for runaway slaves. He also dismissed the police magistrate and severalmunicipal judges for defiance of these orders.

Carmichael Smyth frequently worshipped with the black congregation on Sundays, the ruins of this church are located at the junction of Carmichael and Gladstone road and are incorporated into the structure of St. Ambrose Anglican Church.

To show gratitude the black people collected a great amount of funds which they gave to Carmichael Smyth to have a monument made. It is my assumption that the black Bahamians assumed that he would have a monument sculpted of himself but instead he had a statue of Christopher Columbus sculpted.

The statue was originally meant to be in parliament square but the rich whites were disgusted with the thought of a statue paid for by black people would be at the House of Parliament entrance. So instead the wealthy whites erected a statue of Queen Victoria where it still remains.

As a result Sir James Carmichael Smyth moved his gift to pecks slope near Government house

Information retrieved from “The African diaspora of The Bahamas” by Keith L. Tinker’. There is a similar story about the Statue of Liberty being given as a gift to America by France in commemoration of the abolishment of slavery.

0

John 2 years, 6 months ago

So this account is saying that it was the money of Black, Bahamian slaves that bought and paid for the statue of Chris. So then it gives Bahamians more right to decide what to do with it. Destroying it may not be the best option but first to confirm this account of the circumstances surrounding the creating of the statue and the placement of it on Peaks Slope. Then a plaque at least six feet tall and three feet wide bearing this account should be erected next to the statue. The fact that Black Bahamians were duped into paying for the statue of someone they did not admire is history invaluable.

0

John 2 years, 6 months ago

Do YOU KNOW WHY THE STATUE OF LIBERTY HAVE BROKEN CHAINS AT HER FEET? ‘ When Bartholdi created the first models, the statue's hands were holding broken chains to signify the end of slavery. ... Bartholdi, however, left broken chains at the feet of Lady Liberty to remind us of the freedom from oppression and servitude.14 Mar 2017’. In essence, America would not accept the original design that represented the end of slavery and the ‘freedom’ of Black people in America so the design had to be modified and the concept of its design made more subtle.

One must have full faith that The Colony's (TC) new premier to be much too occupied with attending to the pressing matters of The Colony's 10 most Pouplaces Out Islands and everything like that to be commenting on the unfortunate loss of an Italian Comrade's limb. — And even if official comment be forthcomings and everything like that it will be delegated down to the charge House-elect member for the great constituency of Fox Hill, — Yes?

Why you Tal Russell, continue to write in Greek, when you and others claim the average Bahamian is an’D’ average escapes me. Unless maybe all your posts are directed to those who understand Greek. Other than that your posts must serve to annoy and attempt to confuse the ordinary person. Even a D average writings Nate more comprehensible than what to write and to continue to post in this fashion is silly ignorance. And to still be referring to The independent Bahamas as a colony with a premier surely indicates your intentions are not good and neither is your respect for The Bahamian People.
