ST SAVIOUR'S Parish Cat Island held a very effective Mothering Sunday March and Church Service on Sunday March 14, at St Mary the Virgin, Old Bight, Cat Island.

Scores of young people from the length and breadth of Cat Island, from as far north as Orange Creek to Port Howe in the South gathered at the entrance of Old Bight Primary School to march to the historic St Mary the Virgin Church in celebration of mothering Sunday which is always the forth Sunday of Lent.

This was the third consecutive year that the Anglican church rolled out the red carpet to the other denominations of the island to join them in celebrating this occasion. Fr Chester Burton, felt that because of population dynamics, youth from other churches in the community should be invited.

The young people marched briskly in their churches paraphernalia to the pulsating sounds of the bass drums comprising of all male students from the Arthur's Town High School namely Khayl Seymour, Derrick Cox, Jurrique Russell, Chavez Saunders and Lamarrrgio Newbold. Their stride and stamina ensured that no one who marched felt the two mile trek. At the completion of the march just before entering the edifice the Royal Bahamas Police Force Cadets under their squad leader Officer Armstrong executed an adept drill routine which amazed the onlookers.

The theme "Anointing the King in our young men," was taken from 1 Samuel 16:1-13.

Catechist Cedric Wilson and Lay reader Camellar Seymour emceed the Service. Fr Seymour opened the celebration with a prayer, senior acolyte Donald Newbold Jr read the scripture and the recently established Christian Youth Movement group from St Mark and St Andrews sang

selections. Other selections were performed by Pastor Prince Willard Dean who is also the principal of the Arthur's Town High School and Brother Edison Pinder who told the congregation that every one's talent is hidden until it is released like a butterfly from its cocoon.

Mt Sinai Baptist Youth group gave a soul inspiring rendition of the Lord is my shepherd and pastor Fitzgerald François from the Seventh Day Adventist in Cat Island applied the teaching that David would have received from his father Jesse to recognise as a man after God's own heart. The youth then rose to sing "Father Abraham." Evangelist Bradley Russell from the Highway Church of God came to the podium to dissect how the scripture touched him as he prepared for the sermon. And finally Inspector Tony Taylor placed the icing on the Mothering Sunday Cake with some stern advice to parents and students present.

People's Warden of the parish Mrs. Olga Wilson said the vote of thanks and Fr. Burton gave closing remarks and the benediction. All in attendance left with glad hearts anticipating next year's Mothering Sunday March.
