A RESIDENT shot two would-be armed robbers who were trying to break into his house, police revealed last night
The incident happened at Assembly Estates, Firetrail Road, at about 2pm yesterday.
When police officers arrived they found a gold Honda Accord car, licence plate number 221452, outside the house and a man lying bleeding nearby.
According to reports, two men - one allegedly armed with a handgun - were attempting to break into the house when they were seen by someone who lives there.
One of the thugs allegedly fired two shots at the resident, who then produced a licensed shotgun and returned fire.
This resulted in one of the attempted robbers sustaining gunshot wounds to the shoulder and upper back. He reportedly collapsed while attempting to flee the scene.
He was taken to hospital where he is listed as in serious condition.
The other would-be robber is thought to have also been hit. He reportedly fled into nearby bushes and is being hunted by detectives. Police up to press time were unable to release a description of the alleged armed robber.
Officers searching the area yesterday found a woman's handbag and a bloody shirt.
it is understood the men are connected with several house-breakings and robberies which have occurred in the South West New Providence in recent weeks.
Police press liaison officer Sergeant Chrislyn Skippings said yesterday, however, that investigations into the matter are still at the preliminary stage.

Title: Cheers to the Owner!!!
Imagine what would have happen if the owner was not armed with a licensed shot gun....with crime escalating the way it is maybe the government should legalize firearms. The police dept. is grossly understaffed and under equipped who is going to protect us when we truly need it?

Title: it is what it is
How is it not right to have a gun? @ concerned student.
Everyone has a right to defend themselves, especially in this town when its against senseless, merciless, lawless, heartless, remorseless criminals.
They coming into our homes (the place we sleep, where we make and raise our families, where we retreat to..what other solace does a human being have other than their home?)..you deserve what you get when you violate that space!

Title: Home Invasion
Unfortunately, this story is so sad. While i am not sad that these individuals were shot, as they certainly got what they deserved. Only the Lord knows what they would have done had they gotten into this person's home. The sad part of this story is that I wish there was a way we could reach our young men and women before they indulge themselves in a life of crime.

Title: Good Job
This is exactly why RESPONSIBLE citizens should be able to carry firearms. Maybe the delinquent members of society with no concern for human life will think twice before taking what is not theirs or taking someone's life. Good Job prepared homeowner!

Title: Don't be concerned over this!
An eye for an eye only makes everyone blind if you decide to take someone's eye. If you don't take anyone's eye then noone should take your eye! Once again YAAAYYY!
No sympathy for anyone entering another persons property. What if the shot the robber fired had hit the innocent resident? Thank God it didn't! YAAAYY! I support innocent, hard-working citizens and I condemn to the fullest these brazen, law breakers. YAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY!

Its not right for someone to enter ur house and at the same time its not right to have to have a gun because things like this do happen.
sigh... an eye for an eye makes everyone blind.
