A LAWYER appeared in court yesterday accused of stealing nearly $100,000 from a client.

Sonia Agnes Serette, 39, of Coral Harbour, was arraigned before Magistrate Carolita Bethell in Court 8, Bank Lane, charged with stealing by reason of service.

It is alleged that between Thursday, October 22, 2009, and Saturday, February 13, 2010, Serette stole $96,967.50 from school principal Fiordelisa Bain by reason of service..

Serette, who is represented by attorney Murrio Ducille, pleaded not guilty.

Mr Ducille told the court that Serette is employed in private practice and is not a flight risk. He told the court that reporting conditions were not necessary in this instance. Inspector Ercell Dorsette, the prosecutor, agreed.

Magistrate Bethell granted Serette bail in the sum of $30,000 with two sureties. The case was adjourned to June 9 at 2pm.

  • Yes - Bahamians have given the FNM and PLP chances and it's time we give someone else a chance to see what they can do for the country
  • No - Bahamians will never vote anything other than the FNM or PLP into power
