JUDO SENSATION: Cynthia Rahming became the first Bahamian ever to win a match at the Youth Olympics.
Published On:Wednesday, September 08, 2010
JUDO sensation Cynthia Rahming became the first Bahamian ever to win a match at the world level of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG). She defeated a very capable Indian opponent who was a medallist at the Asian Games.
"This is a significant milestone in our programme," says D'Arcy Rahming, president of the Bahamas Judo Federation (BJF). "My hope is that we will inspire others to do much with very limited resources."
Cynthia practices 24 hours a week during the school year at the national training center on Joe Farrington Road.
She is also an honour roll student at St Augustine's College, and has an active church and family life.
Rahming added: "So much time is idly spent by children in our society. Between video games and the Internet we are losing the fact we all stand on the shoulders of past generations who know how to work and commit themselves to something."
The BJF extends thanks to the Bahamas Olympic Committee and Adidas, sponsors of the Youth Olympics.
In addition, the BJF is signing up new students for the fall semester. Persons interested may call 242-364-6773 for classes or go online at www.bahamasjudo.com

Title: Congratulations Cynthia!
Wonderful to see yet another SAC student, and female at that, doing great things. With school, family and church support, along with her own inner strength, I know she'll go far.
