A MAN is on remand at Her Majesty's Prison after he was charged in connection with the country's fifth homicide for the year.
Daniel Rolle, 21, of Dumping Ground Corner, appeared before Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez of Court One, Nassau Street in connection with the death of Dennis Tynes.
It is alleged that Rolle shot and killed Tynes on Sunday, January 15, off East Street.
Tynes was reportedly shot shortly after 2pm behind Needles Inn, restaurant and bar located on Lincoln Boulevard just off East Street.
He died in hospital of his injuries after he was taken there in a private vehicle.
The accused was not allowed to enter a plea to the murder charge due to the nature of the offence. Chief Magistrate Gomez informed the accused that the prosecution would present a Voluntary Bill of Indictment against him, forwarding the case directly to the Supreme Court for trial and bypassing a preliminary trial in the Magistrate's Court.
The Voluntary Bill will be served on him on March 28 in Court One.
The accused, due to the seriousness of the offence and the newly amended Bail Act, was not eligible for bail as the law removed the lower court's discretion to grant a bond on the charge.
He was remanded to prison until the completion of his trial. Rolle was not represented at yesterday's proceedings. Sixteen witnesses are expected to give evidence in this case.
