THE Supreme Court murder trial of a man accused of killing a 30-year-old woman two years ago will resume today after yesterday's proceedings were halted.
The delay in the trial came because the accused, 29-year-old Philip McCartney, was taken to hospital for examination and treatment after he complained of not feeling well.
Shortly after the start of yesterday morning's proceedings, just as prosecutor Jillian Williams sought to call a witness to give evidence, McCartney began showing signs of discomfort in the prisoner's dock, prompting Justice Bernard Turner to inquire about his state.
After it appeared that the accused could not continue, the order was made for him to be taken to hospital for examination and if necessary, treatment.
McCartney, who was represented by defence attorney Ramona Farquharson-Seymour, is accused of the August 13, 2010 killing of Chrishonda Swain, whose body was found on a track road.
According to earlier testimony, she caught a ride with a man from a nightclub that morning, and they dropped two of her cousins off at a house in Pinewood Gardens. The victim never arrived at her home.
The trial resumes today at 10am before Justice Turner in the Supreme Court.
