A JUDGE will hear submissions today on whether or not a former paramedic's lawsuit against the Public Hospitals Authority was brought within the allowable time.
The issue arose yesterday when Patrick Mackey, attorney for the Crown, brought written submissions to court indicating that Frederick Johnson III's lawsuit against his former employer was filed after the statute of limitations had run out.
Justice Rhonda Bain chastised Mr Mackey for presenting the plaintiff's lawyer, Shamsi Munroe of Sharon Wilson and Co, with the submissions only minutes before the start of proceedings.
She pointed out that Mr Mackey had been handling the matter since March 2009 and asked why he was only bringing the matter to the court's attention now.
Mr Johnson is suing the PHA for what he alleges was his wrongful dismissal.
He was fired in early 2006, allegedly for not responding to a letter regarding an undocumented seven-day absence.
He claims this was not so and is seeking compensation.
Proceedings resume at 10.30am.
