The Bahamas’ oldest florist yesterday announced it was looking to sell its current Shirley Street premises after 60 years and move to a new location.
Jim Whitehead, owner of the Nassau Florist, said: “The Nassau Florist is practically an institution in the Bahamas, and is surely well known for its location on Shirley Street just west of Mackey Street and across from the Texaco gas station, where it has been for nearly 60 years.
“That is why it took much deliberation and careful thought before we decided to move the Nassau Florist to a new location.
“We have outgrown the space and our current location, with between 10 and 12 staff presently, and even more during the high season. There was not enough room for everybody to work productively. Alongside that issue was the fact that rising costs meant that we had to find a location that was more efficient, and where we could cut certain costs. Also, The Nassau Florist must be prepared to take on new business.”
The Nassau Florist’s current premises is for sale, and is listed with Mario Carey Realty. The company will remain at its current location on Shirley Street until the property has been sold. As soon as a buyer is found, its new location will be announced.
Mr Whitehead added: “Our customers can rest assured that our new location will be just as convenient as it is now, will have more room for gifts and other complimentary items, and will have a better and bigger show room to help them with their purchases. We are excited about the many changes and improvements underway at The Nassau Florist.”
