Handcuffed and shackled, 31-year-old Jason Glinton - who was flanked by police entering court - appeared before Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez yesterday facing a charge of murder.

It is claimed that between October 5 and October 18, in Cat Island, he intentionally and by means of unlawful harm, caused the death of an unknown male.

The man’s charred remains were discovered by police shortly before midnight on October 18 after officers were notified of a ‘strange odour’ in the area of a track road in Devils Point.

Glinton was told by Chief Magistrate Gomez that he was not required to enter a plea to the charge due to its nature and that his case would be fast-tracked to the Supreme Court for trial.

The accused was also told that he was not be eligible for bail as the court did not have the jurisdiction to consider a bond on the charge.

Before Glinton was escorted from the courtroom, his attorney, Murrio Ducille made claims to the chief magistrate that his client had been in police custody since October 21.

He said that eight days in police custody was beyond what the law required, even considering the extension that police are allowed.

Chief Magistrate Gomez recorded the complaint for the record before remanding Glinton to Her Majesty’s Prison until completion of his trial.

He returns to magistrates’ court on January 28, 2013. Glinton waved to his family, sitting in the back row of court, as he exited the courtroom to be placed in a holding cell before being transported to prison.
