FREEPORT - Two toddlers were victims of a near drowning at a popular beach on Grand Bahama during the Monday holiday.
Inspector Terecita Pinder reported that the incident occurred around 6:30pm at Xanadu Beach.
According to reports, the victims were two girls, ages three and four. They were in the water with family members at the time.
Family members performed life saving CPR on the girls.
According to a witness, there was a beach party at the western side of the beach, where the girls were discovered.
“I was in the water and I heard a man shouting for everyone to get out of the water,” the witness said.
The witness said everyone then rushed over to see what had happened.
“There were two girls on the ground and some persons were performing CPR on them. The mother was very distraught and started praying,” the eyewitness recalled.
The eyewitness said a number of police officers were at the scene questioning persons at the party.
Inspector Pinder said EMS personnel took the children to the Rand Memorial Hospital, where they are now listed in stable condition.
Police are advising persons to be vigilant while on the beach with young children.
“Persons should be mindful that children should be supervised at all times,” Inspector Pinder said.
