IN THE spirit of thanksgiving, police officers assigned to the Urban Renewal Division, headed by superintendents Stephen Dean and Carolyn Bowe, made a contribution to the RBPF Dependants’ Trust Fund.
Accepting the grant on behalf of the fund was former assistant commissioner Grafton Ifill, who praised the officers for the noble undertaking on Thanksgiving Day.
He also thanked the officers for their commitment to the duty of preserving this country, and noted that the funds will be well applied.
Supt Dean said officers daily put their lives on the line to protect the residents of the Bahamas.
Unfortunately, there are times when the worst happens (death or disability) and innocent children are left without a mother or father.
Supt Dean said while the trust cannot ever completely fill the void created by the loss or incapacitation of an officer, he and his officers believe financial contributions can help immensely.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force Dependants’ Trust (The Trust) was established in 1993 and was registered as a charitable trust on June 26, 1996
The overall objectives of the fund are:
• To look after dependants of police officers who die as a result of injuries sustained during the course of duty.
• To assist police officers who have become incapacitated as a result of physical or mental injury sustained during the course of duty and the dependants of such officers.
In attendance at the presentation were: the Commissioner of Police Ellison Greenslade, Assistant Commissioner of Police Leon Bethel, Administrative Secretary of the Police Dependent’s Trust Vernita Johnson and inspectors from Urban Renewal.
