Now the D.P.M will see how countless Bahamians feel,when they are robbed raped and murdered and they let the suckers go free,let this be a lesson to all of these politicians who have their heads in the sand,that anyone can be a victim of crime,he might not be so lucky next time around.these young men are wreaking havoc on society,but you the lawmakers sit on your asses with all sorts of fancy speeches,nothing is being done to punish these criminals,they are in and out of prison like its a club house,we need to put ball and chain they ass and put them in the hot sun in Andros and let them till the land frm sun up to sun down,make prison HARD,obviously its to easy,nobody seems afraid to go there.

Quite obvious while I'm now listening to Comrade Sister Candia Dames the Guardian's News Editor being interviewed on the Darold Miller Talk Show, that while she was an excellent "love offering" reporter during the Cooper's Town by election, she is no crime reporter. Every question she should have asked the Commission of the Policeman's on the scene of the armed home invasion of the acting PM, she never asked. Even her memory had to be jarred by Darold cause she had completely forgotten that there was actually an ambulance with flashing lights present at the scene of the crime? Get with the important facts Comrade Sister which even a junior Guardian reporter would have observed at the crime scene or have asked the Commish of the Policeman's.

Hmmm. From the criminal perspective, it makes sense. You have to fish where the fish is. Anyone who is rich is not safe. I'm willing to bet that the next big robbery story will be a gang of robbers who wait and ambush the bank deposit box on Shirley Street. I see a lot of cars pull off and hurriedly run up to the slot and drop their money in before anyone can rob them.

This is not good. I'm not even going down the road of him feeling what everyone feels, though it may be true. What does this say for the country? Do you see all of those police officers on the scene? If they would handle all crime like this we wouldn't be at this point. The criminals feel that they own the country, they run the webshops, they pay off customs officers to look the other way on illegal gun shipments, they pay police to get intelligence, they operate as campaign generals and chauffeurs for govt ministers, they sponsor election campaigns and what does the govt say? "Think of the jobs that we will lose if we put them out of business"

Commissioner Greenslade, FYI those webshops could be funding all kinds of illegal activities, noone knows how the money is being made or where it's being transferred. I have serious doubts that boxing $1 and $2 dollar could result in the rumored profits at these businesses.

Well due to the state of the country, many unemployed persons, the christmas season especially, and a government that forces us to believe non-sense in regard to crime, can now get a taste of what we the people are experiencing day to day. The Prime Minister cant even answer questions raised by the public, he has been very oblivious to many serious situations in this country and it raises the question: 'Who is really in charge here?' The country is basically in the ground, I really dont see how Bahamar is going to change anything, and as we've seen before most of the hotels on the western strip were struggling to make it, even when equipped with the right marketing and services. Bahamar especially has not one thing these other hotels could not have offered except for a slightly bigger casino. Wow, a bigger casino ? Yup that is it, along with the residential side that the natives cant even afford. This country is not concerned with its most important strength, the people. And that is why we face so many problems that are a little extreme for such a small country but the real question is.. What do you really expect to happen? The people are gullable, too lazy to take a stand and we are in too much of an 'expenditure' to even consider properly handling our problems. Crime is only advancing, the people are hungry and desperate, and this is a result of the lack of focus on what makes a country, the people.

I just heard a talk show radio spot for The Best Bodyguard Service Money Can Buy." A regular talk show caller identified as Graham said, "Voodoo is responsible for the armed home invasion at the acting PM family home?" Really? Can't you just see the new lead story for the international media once the Mandela news fades away; "Masked Armed 'Voodoo Bandits' Invade Family Home of Bahamaland's Acting Prime Minister."

Ok so the second in command was robbed at gun point and gun butted. Everyone on his security detail must answer and explain the breech.. Give an account as to the how and the why! But maybe now they will stop covering up and give the real account of crime in this country. Has the murder count exceeded 125? Why are more robbers and murderers walking the streets than what is in prison? The message of all this is "no one is safe"

I'm still shocked at this story, this takes balls and a certain commitment to recklessness.. This is disturbing on 3 different fronts. The degree of lawlessness going on in the Country, The careless and bold nature of the criminals, and the lax nature of security surrounding DPM Davis which indicates that regardless of his prior statements he does not take the crime problem serious.. The question now is what message does this send to citizens living their daily life trying to survive about there safety? What reassurance can the Police Commissioner give the people that crime is down and say it with a serious face?

THIS is what happens in countries w/ a 75% illegitimacy rate ..I don,t like the term illegitimacy so i say irresponsible sexual behavior and absentee fathers .Hey i like sex as much as the next person but i practice birth control and raised my two children w/ their mother ,,now that i,m single again i am careful ..@JOHN will say this is b/c we are such a christian nation and the devil is fighting for us and more progressive ,enlightened countries ,Sweden ,Switzerland , the danes ,cayman to a certain extend have much lower crime and murder rates b/c the devil already has them and the fight is over ,,WHAT A BUNCH OF HORSE SH##T ,,ITS B/C WE ARE FRIGGIN MORALESS

Time rewrite the official script on crime. To disregard previous statements made by both PM Christie and former PM Hubert, the Commish of the Policeman's, along with Ministers of the Peoples Security Nottage and Tommy T, that serous crimes are being committed by known criminals, against known criminals.That such crimes are restricted to a handful of geographical areas. Comrades we must all realize that there is a growing number of Bahamalander's who think it's only when crime hits directly home with the politicians that they really start to get it in their thick skulls that the broad range of crime that is happening to families and businesses across our Bahamaland on a daily basis, is not fictional. Comrades it is for real. Bahamaland this morning just handed our government officials an brand new, more accurately written crime script.

Very strange that not one person has commented on the fact that our PM is off the island - yet again!! Aren't his VAT experts from NZ supposed to be arriving this week? Didn't I hear that the funeral for the great icon Nelson Mandela won't be for at least 10days. What does our PM plan to do with all that free time? Spend more money?! His own or ours?? Will there be accountability?

After thinking about it some more ....I'm no thief but noone takes this kind of risk unless the rewards are great...say if you planned a bank robbery or an armored truck robbery...how much money could they have gotten here? The risk just seems to be too great for a few dollars. Unless the undepositable money from the webshops is stashed there...

I don't think our violent crime problem is strictly due to our economy. If that were the case, explain why countries with lower GDP and much less infrastructure, have lower statistics (by ratio) on violent crime. I submit that our problems are mainly due to a gross lack of morals. Consequently, my opinion is that we need some sort of action that exposes persons who lack basic moral standards. I have some ideas that I am confident would reduce crime if implemented, but any solution must involve a concerted effort by law abiding Bahamians.

The solution to this country's crime problem is multi faceted and needs a concerted, ruthless and bi-partisan approach. Having said that, I am not convinced the Bahamian people are ready to pay the price that must be paid to win the war against the armed hoodlums. It seems that we have just not suffered enough! Why else do we tolerate a government that talks big on crime yet presides over a homicide rate of anything from 110 to 125 in 2013.

This administration and previous administrations have failed miserably to tackle the problem. It is time now for the electorate to demand real action. I suggested that armed crime is a multi faceted problem and it will require a multi faceted approach. I believe the following measures MUST be introduced although the list is by no means exhaustive:

1. Eliminate all the non-jobs in the public service.
2. Cut out all the excessive government expenditure including foreign trips and consultants.
3. Pour a large part of the savings into the war on crime.
4. Toughen the acceptance standards for new police recruits and be ruthless in ridding the
   force of any "bad apples".
5. Raise the salaries for police officers. Make the profession of a police officer a valued career option and not just something young men drift into in the absence better opportunities.
6. Set up an elite task force, overt and under-cover, to tackle the armed criminals.
7. Stiffen existing penalties for armed crimes with a minimum sentence of 10 years for possession, 20 years for firing a gun.
8. Consider the option of removing the right to a trial by jury for armed offences.
9. Special gun courts to hear all gun crimes within six months.
10. Bring the AG's office up to the standards expected in the 21st century.
11. Hire more judges and from overseas if necessary.
12. Ban heavily tinted windows immediately and make stop and search exercises much less transparent.

All of these steps require serious funding and real political will. Unfortunately, the polarized political spectrum in this country may prove to be our downfall. This weakness is playing into the hands of the criminals. Only a bi-partisan approach has any chance of succeeding. The criminals must know that the country as a whole is determined to prevail. Tell our politicians that the time for talking is over. The current administration had five years in opposition to study the problem and has proven to be clueless. It's time for ALL PARTIES to get their heads together and introduce the courageous measures that will prevent The Bahamas from sliding into the abyss. There is still a small window of opportunity - we are not yet without hope. But the country needs a fearless leader. Step forward that man, or woman.

The first one to properly get the shaft here is our Police Commissioner.....if he can't protect the acting PM from serious crime, there's just no hope in hell for the rest of us!! Greenslade has had it coming for quite sometime time now through his bumbling incompetence, but I could have never ever have imagined the extent of the public disgrace that it has finally come with!!! Our Police Commissioner's self-discipline is itself woefully inadequate, like many of our politicians today....just take good look at their bulging waist lines!!!! Get rid of the lot before, even though it may now be a day too late!!!!!

This is a really serious act and it requires a response that is sure and swift. Unfortunately for us, I have no faith- and this is a sad thing to admit much less say- that this administration or the last has/had the vision or political will to develop and enforce solutions to the problem. Policing and the judicial system in this country are broken and the criminals in this act has given everyone the middle finger. This is what we get for settling for the sad representation and governance we have had for the past decades. This is what the so called middle class get for remaining silent all these years and protecting what they thought was their hard won territory at the expense of the rest of Bahamians. Leaving over the hill but renting substandard housing to the poorer replacements, and immigrants and then showing them disdain- even though only one generation removed from that condition themselves. This is what we get for claiming righteousness, but taking the shortcuts too when made available to us. This is what we get with a tourist economy that paid pool hands at Atlantis twice as much as teachers and expected that profession to attract the best and brightest? To remain a respected profession in an increasingly consumerist society? This is what we get when we pass incompetent so called teachers onto vulnerable students for decades. This is what we get when criminal activity is glamorized. This is what we get in a country without accountability, a culture of responsibility and consequences for serious anti-social behavior. This is what you get when immoral acts against children, women and the defenseless are not punished. This is what we get when those with all want more and suck and suck and give nothing back to the community. This is what you get when people only think about themselves and theirs and forget that if you don't think about community and show concern for it and your neighbor, that the neighbor might someday prey on you. This is what you get when you stop taking children to church (your right) - but have no alternative ways to teach children the valuable human lessons of the those Bible stories- irrespective of what you believe. Too many hypocrites in the so-called church. The old prey on the young, women and men covet each other's things- husbands, wives and partners without consequence and feed off of the thrill of secrecy and ego. We hurt each other without thought. We are lazy, suckneck, hypocrites. After 40 years of prosperity we should be ashamed of where the country is right now. It should have been a gem, but instead we have created a multi-headed monster that is careening into an abyss. We live next to a murderer who is out on bail. Every time I see that fella I wonder - what does that say- his being out on the free walking the streets- about how we value of the life he took. And you know what the answer is- nothing. If we don't value the place- if we don't expect AND insist on better- it aint coming.

I refuse to comment on what the PLP should be doing to resolve crime, unemployment etc...

We have been talking and begging these clowns for 40 years and they totally ignored us. The shoe is now on the other foot and affecting them directly.

No one else feels it when your corn hurts, but they can see you limping.

Let's see if this jolts their after election Alzheimer condition or will they continue down the same road of making promises to comfort the fools, blah, blah, blah. do nothing, blah blah blah.

Would either the Tribune, Guardian and talk shows, please assign a senior reporter to accurately give the nation the facts. How is it the media since 7 00 am have been reporting that the acting PM's security detail 'had not reported' to his family residence for work at the time of his home invasion took place, that his driver was a 'civilian' and not a policeman. Yet, Comrade "Brave" is being quoted in this story as stating that; "Unfortunately, a member of 'my security detail' did receive minor injuries."

The rest of the World is going to have a field day with this event. Name one other Country leader in the World today who has been robbed at gun point! JFK was assassinated and look at the shock waves that historical event created for the World. Perhaps we would have been better off as a nation had the Acting PM not survived this event. Having known P. Antony White personally over many years. Lynden Pindling I had met but a few times very informally. Roland ""Pop" Simonette I knew extremely well, including visiting him many times at his shipyard office and having a private lunch with him and Lady Symonette at their residence, made me wonder what the three of them might have been talking about this early morning, after the news broke of the armed invasion at the Acting Prime Minister's family residence? For the three sons of Bahamaland, they must have been shaking their heads in dismay. Comrades there IS a way to turn this crime wave around. We must find it.and then willing to work smart as we begin to rebuild our tiny Bahamaland.

The Bahamas government, no matter who is in power - at whatever time- need to stop putting pampers on these criminals and treat them the way they act. Time to stop feeding people on Death Row and do what their sentences demand and put them to death. It's time for politicians to stop playing politics with these criminals and making it seem as if they are friends with the criminals. Time to start doing their jobs and address this crime issue with an iron fist. No playing, no games and no bail for murderers... This scene could have ended quite tragically because this fella on the video has a gun. Our DPM could have been dead. Our governments need to stop playing with these fellasssss and start hanginggggg murderers and castrating rapists. The end.

Now Tal does not want to scare away the tourist dollars and wants the media to hush hush the story. I am sure he was quite happy during the last election campaign when the PLP posted signs all around town about murders being committed in Nassau.

Tal it is funny when the shoe goes on the other foot how people like YOU act. Think of the many families who are mourning the loss of their loved ones. Criminals don't wear any particular colour shirts and don't care who they harm.

I am thankful for The DPM and his wife that they were not injured. Can you imagine if they had been killed what a message this would have sent around the world?

Crime in this country is not just a PLP/FNM/DNA/Black/White problem it is something that we all face each day and it will take ALL of us fighting to bring it under control. Politicians on all sides of the political divide need to get their act together and stop posturing when they are in Parliament and on TV blaming each other.

Perhaps if "Barney Rubble" Greenslade would pull his head out of his ass and listen, he would learn that SUSTAINED traffic check points are needed to curb criminals running around loose with a car full of arms! Might even catch a few thousand illegals.
