BAHAMAS ambassador to Haiti Godfrey Rolle led a celebration of Bahamian independence at the Hotel Karibe Petion-Ville in Port au Prince on July 9.
He saluted the dignitaries and Haitian government officials who gathered to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Bahamas becoming a sovereign nation.
“Please permit me on behalf of the government and people of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, my lovely wife Rochelle, and the Staff of the Embassy of the Bahamas in Haiti, to welcome you to this very special and historic celebration in honour of my country’s 40th year of independence,” he said.
“Your presence here this evening, demonstrates to me, the cordiality and respect that each of you share with the people of the Bahamas as we celebrate this milestone in our history.
“Forty years is a relatively short time as a nation, but despite that fact we in the Bahamas have made significant strides in directing our own affairs.
“We are fully committed to those democratic principles and ideals that recognise and uphold the importance of human dignity, and collectively, we continue to seek to improve the economic and social welfare of every Bahamian.”
