WITH the IAAF World Championships in Athletics looming over the horizon, about seven athletes, including Michael Mathieu and Shaunae Miller who double up in the 200 and 400 metres and Sheniqua ‘Q’ Ferguson, who has a double dip in the 100 and 200m, have already attained the A qualifying standards so far this year.
Based on the performances posted on the IAAF website, Mathieu, Miller and Ferguson are joined by Derrick Atkins, Jamial Rolle, Jeffery Gibson and Anthonique Strachan.
There are another six - Ramon Miller, Ryan Ingraham, Jamal Wilson, Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie, Tynia Gaither and Bianca ‘BB’ Stuart, who have surpassed the B qualifying standards.
All of these athletes are expected to compete in the BAAA National Track and Field Championships at the Grand Bahama Sports Complex Friday to Saturday.
The meet will serve as the final trials for the World Championships, scheduled for August 10-18 in Moscow, Russia. According to the IAAF website, the top performances by Bahamians so far this year are as follows:
