It’s that exciting time of year when Freedom Farm hosts its biggest fund-raiser – the Annual Steakout and Jamboree – at the Yamacraw Beach playing fields on Saturday, March 23.
Steakout coordinator Arthur “Baldy” Seymour gives his assurance once again of a “no wait period” to pick up your succulent steaks, according to a press release.
“Donations of goods and money are still needed to help with the overall success of this initiative. Additionally, more volunteers are asked to give their service during the day. Money for tickets are asked to be turned in as soon as possible to assist with purchasing goods in advance.
“We are pleased to announce that the highly anticipated, extreme pressured annual jamboree tournament will still be held on the weekend. The speed tournament will continue to be shortened to three innings of baseball for each game with batters inheriting one ball and one strike in the batters box.”
To add a twist to this year’s tournament, Commissioner Castino Sands has declared it the “Take One and Go Tournament.”
It will take on a single elimination format where each team that takes the win goes on and each team that loses goes home.
“We have reached our midway point in our regular season and there have been lots of surprises along the way. The Lignum Vitaes, managed by coach Greg Sr, in the softball division is the only undefeated team in the league with a record of five wins and no losses. To not much surprise however, there remains the defending T-ball champions Cantaloupes managed by coach Lincoln and the defending Coach Pitch champions Mosquitoes, managed by Coach Alva, still dominating their divisions with only one loss each on the year.
“Coach Will and the Barracudas in the 9-10 division, and coach Greg Jr and the Wild Dogs in the 11-12 division have both returned to the top of their divisions through the half-way mark. Coach CJ and the defending champions Raccoons still lead the standings in the 13-15 division. And in the 16-20 division, we have coach Jeff and the Tainos with a narrow lead in first place.
The fight for playoff berth continues each and every weekend at Freedom Farm as we anticipate surprise finishes to capture each division throne,” said the release.
