THE Bahamas and Nassau Yacht Club are preparing to host some of the world’s top sailors in the International Star Class Western Hemisphere Championship 2013.
Twenty-three two-man teams have entered the challenging four-day race set for April 9 through 13. Eight countries will be represented from as far afield as Argentina and Ukraine. Races will be sailed in the waters off eastern New Providence.
“Events like these give the Bahamas invaluable exposure, and also bring enormous economic value and create a positive impact on the Bahamas,” said regatta chairman Paul Hutton-Ashkenny.
The event is being supported by the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and the Nassau branch of private banking firm Pictet Bank and Trust.
“Pictet is known for its traditional values and we are pleased to support this sailing event featuring Starboats, which have been in existence since the start of the previous century,” said Yves Lourdin, Managing Director at Pictet.
“We wish all participants luck and hope that the weather conditions provide excellent sailing during the regatta”.
The Bahamas and Nassau Yacht Club last hosted the Star Class Western Hemisphere Championships in 2010.
