The Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA) has awarded the contract to build an alternative bridge across the Grand Lucayan Waterway to the $3.98 million bid presented by ABC All Bahamas Construction Company and Waugh Construction.
Presiding over the bid presentation was the GBPA’s honorary chairman, Sir Jack Hayward, who thanked the various contractors in attendance as well as the Grand Bahama Development Company (DEVCO) for their support.
The new Grand Bahama Highway Bridge will provide a direct route from McClean’s Town into the downtown Freeport area, servicing the various settlements along the way and creating greater efficiency, less travel time and reduced fuel costs for residents, plus faculty and students of the northern campus of the College of the Bahamas (COB).
Tenders were presented by Lucayan Prefab Company from New Providence; Treasure Coast Marine; and ABC All Bahamas Construction, Company and Waugh Construction. The latter presented the lowest bid.
Sir Jack said: “I believe it will be a very good day. There will employment of Bahamians. There will be activity, and something useful will be achieved and built that will serve everyone.”
