CANTOR Gaming, the company which has partnered with the Atlantis Resort to provide mobile sports betting, is at the centre of a US Federal investigation according to a Wall Street Journal report.
The report said Lee Amaitis, the founder of Cantor, is being investigated over suspicion that his company accepted illegal sports bets.
The October 2, 2013, article said the claims surfaced when a colleague of Amaitis, Michael Colbert plead guilty to knowingly accepting illegal wagers.
Federal prosecutors in New York lodged charges in August alleging that Mr Colbert had knowledge that he was accepting bets from operatives of an illegal gambling ring.
Mr Colbert is assisting authorities with their investigation, which is believed to reach high up Cantor’s executive chain, the report said.
Raising the issue yesterday, the opposition FNM asked whether the government and the Gaming Board have done due diligence on the matter, and whether a local investigation has been launched.
Just last week, Atlantis announced the opening of a 6,860 square foot, state-of-the-art race and sports betting operation with Cantor as its partner.
Calls and an email to Atlantis CEO George Markantonis were not answered last night.
