PRESIDENT Curtis Pride said his Bahamas Track and Field Coaches Association is thrilled by the response they have received so far for the first United States Association of Track and Field Level One Coaching, Training and Certification Course to be held in the Bahamas.

The BTFCA is scheduled to hold the course November 1-3 at the Ministry of Education building and the Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium.

Lawrence Seagrave is expected to be the main instructor assisted by Dr Larry Judge, the chairman of the USA Coaching and Educational Development.

“So far, we have some 43 persons who have already registered for the course, not including a number of teachers who are still waiting for approval from the Ministry of Education,” Pride said.

“Originally, we were hoping to have at least 45 persons participate, but we will definitely surpass 50 persons.”

Out of that number, Pride said they have received applications from at least one American, who applied on line as a result of having the course added to the USATF website.

“For us, that’s pretty good considering that we have only been on the website for a short space of time,” Pride said.

“I’m sure that before the course is held, we will probably end up with one or two more Americans applying to come here to participate in the course.”

Pride said that by having the course here in the Bahamas, it makes it more affordable for Bahamians to participate because they won’t have to worry about paying the fees for travel, room and board, if the course was held in the United States.

He said they are appreciative of the USATF working with their association in making the course a reality.

Early registration closed on October 16. For those persons who still wish to participate, Pride said they will have to pay the late fee of $200.00.

“Everything is going very well and we hope that all of the stake holders will give us the support as they have promised,” he said.

The course, in technical and theory, is slated to begin 6pm November 1 and run until 10pm. On Saturday, November 2, the sessions are set to begin at 9am and wrap up on Sunday, November 3.
