AS the regular season winds down for the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Eagles football team, Bahamian players continue to excel on both sides of the ball for the small Presbyterian college prep school in Rabun County, Georgia.
Two games remain in the Carolinas Athletic Association season and the Eagles have posted a 5-4 record, led offensively by Gerrio Rahming and defensively by Michael Bullard.
Rahming, a two-sport star who also excels on the baseball diamond, has been one of the most explosive running backs in the CAA for the second consecutive year.
In his senior season he has totalled 1,502 yards on 156 carries for an average of 9.63 yards per carry and scored 17 rushing touchdowns, one shy of his school record-setting touchdown total of 18 set last year.
In a 30-20 loss to Providence Day on October 18, Rahming carried the ball 22 times for 200 yards and two scores. It was his fourth 200-yard rushing game of the season and fifth game with multiple scores.
His season high in yards was a 285-yard outing in a 21-20 loss to Christ School.
He scored five touchdowns in a 48-0 win over Cherokee with 10 carries for 222 yards and four scores and also caught a 48-yard reception for another score.
In a 34-14 win over Towns County, Rahming had a season low 33 yards rushing on just five carries, but caught two passes for 82 yards and a touchdown.
Some of his other standout performances include 26 carries for 195 yards and two touchdowns in the season opener against Robbinsville, 19 carries for 173 yards and three touchdowns against Andrews and, 26 carries for 210 yards and a touchdown against Asheville School, and 11 carries for 184 yards and four touchdowns against Cannon.
He has been selected as the overall player of the game three times and offensive player of the game twice by the MaxPreps.com staff.
As a junior, Rahming had 215 carries for 1,565 yards, 18 touchdowns and a total of 2,073 all purpose yards.
With two games left in the season, he his set to surpass last year’s rushing, touchdown and all purpose yards totals.
Bullard’s versatility has emerged in his junior season as a dynamic member of the secondary at the safety position, on special teams as a return man and also offensively in the run game.
The rising sophomore has caught three interceptions, recovered two fumbles and blocked two field goals.
In the win against Asheville, Bullard was named the defensive player of the game when he finished with four tackles, one for a loss, and an interception returned 72 yards for a touchdown.
Against Providence, he recorded a side high eight tackles and an interception, two shy of the season high 10 tackles he posted against Christ School when he also earned defensive player of the game honours.
Other marquee games included three tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery against Cannon, seven tackles and two passes defended against Andrews and three tackles with one interception against Cherokee.
Offensively, he has carried the ball 41 times for 209 yards and totalled 197 return yards, including a punt return long of 63 yards.
Sophomore defensive tackle Cameron Lynch is also another Bahamian member of the Eagles squad. He has registered 10 tackles and three fumble recoveries on the year.
The Eagles are slated to face KIPP Collegiate at home 2pm October 26, and conclude the regular season on the road against Camden Military, 2:30pm November 2.
