The Bahamas in Prophecy (BIP) Association, in keeping with its mandate to unveil God’s purpose and plan for the nation, called on the government, church and people of the Bahamas to endorse the Jewish holy day, Yom Kippur, as a national day of prayer and fasting.
At a Clifford Park event last Saturday, BIP called for a solemn assembly to be observed throughout the nation, and every year during the season of Yom Kippur. During Yom Kippur, the Jewish nation takes time out to fast and pray to God for the healing, cleansing and reconciliation of the people and the land.
Prayers, supplications and thanksgiving were offered up for the healing and cleansing of the nation at the Clifford Park event.
About 35 people attended, said Prophet Micklyn P Seymour.
He said: “The call for this solemn assembly comes at a time when it is clear to all that the government (past and present) doesn’t have the answers to all the crime and social ills that have gripped our nation over the last few years in particular. We believe that they are doing their best, but more needs to be done. However, the Bahamas at this very time is in need of spiritual cleansing.
“The blood of the innocent is crying out from the ground. Crime is at an all time high. Social ills are prevalent throughout our communities. The greatest problem in this nation is that of idolatry, witchcraft and sorcery, covetousness and greed.” Prophet Seymour said these issues tell persons then that the nation has a spiritual problem that cannot be dissolved with natural remedies.
“Longer hours for the police would not solve the crime problem. More police cars, more judges and larger prisons cannot solve our crime problems. Deploying Defence Force officers will not solve our crime problems. Only almighty God can heal a nation. It will only be solved when a people or nation turn from their wicked practices and seek the face of God and pray. It is only then will the land be healed. It simply cannot be done by might nor power but only by the holy spirit,” said Prophet Seymour.
He said the time has come for us to seek God’s face and acknowledge him as sovereign ruler over the nation so that he can heal the land.
“The constitution of the Bahamas tells us that we are a Christian nation, and as a Christian nation, we are supposed to be under the supremacy of God and following after his righteousness, for it is his righteousness that exalts a nation,” said Prophet Seymour.
Prophet Seymour said God put in place set times for nations to come before him.
“He made it a law in the land of Israel for the whole nation to come before him three times every year. The first time is Passover (Pesach,) which today is celebrated as Easter in March/April. The second time is Pentecost (Shavuot) which today is celebrated as Whit Monday in May/June. The third time is the Feast of Tabernacles in which the day of Yom Kippur or Day of Atonement is celebrated in September and October.
During these set times, Prophet Seymour said the almighty comes down and heals the land of Israel after people repent.
“These laws were not limited to the nation of Israel only; Israel was mandated to teach the nations these laws. They told us that these set times and seasons have been done away with. The scripture tells us that the Feast of Tabernacles in which the day of Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement is celebrated; will be kept by all nations and those who refuse to keep it will be cursed (Zecariah14:16-19),” said Prophet Seymour.
He said for the past twelve years BIP has been declaring that the history of the Bahamas is similar and parallel to the Biblical history of the nation of Israel. “According to the prophet Isaiah, God will use these islands in a similar way he used Israel during the dispensation of the Gentiles,” said Prophet Seymour.
“Forty years ago the country became an independent nation on the 10th day of the 7th month, the same dates Israel entered the promised land and celebrated Yom Kippur or Day of Atonement. It is the inspired view of the Bahamas in Prophecy group that the spiritual significance of the Bahamas becoming an independent nation on this date can only be embraced when the nation acknowledges Yom Kippur. To embrace Yom Kippur is to call a solemn assembly in the set time that God has ordained for any nation to come before him in fasting and praying for the sins of its people and the healing of their nation,” said Prophet Seymour.
