SEVERE WEATHER WARNING

THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING ON MONDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER, 2013 FROM 4:30 PM UNTIL 6:30 PM.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR NEW PROVIDENCE, NORTH ANDROS AND THE BERRY ISLANDS.

AT 4:25 AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS ALONG WITH PILOT REPORTS OBSERVED  SEVERAL FUNNEL CLOUDS NORTH OF NEW PROVIDENCE AS WELL AS THUNDER STORM ACTIVITY EAST OF ANDROS ISLAND.

RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS CLUSTERS OR THUNDERSTORMS IN THE NW BAHAMAS AROUND THE FORE-MENTIONED AREAS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS,

HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR  TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY IN DOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS…BOATERS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR.
