Questions about landfill remediation

EDITOR, The Tribune.

The recent serious polluting fires at the landfill which took about three weeks of torture to half of the residents of Nassau clearly indicates that government after government seemingly can’t come up with a solution.

What on earth is this remediation of the landfill that the Minister talks about?

Doesn’t he know what is in the waste we create and anyway we eat what the Americans do so isn’t the garbage we create the same?

Why do we need a foreign company to check on what is in our waste?

Don’t we pride ourselves of being the most advanced in the Caribbean, but it seems from news reports that on this issue Barbados has beaten us to the post whilst we check what is in the waste they will be lowering their emissions and saving in the costs of electricity!

Who is Renew Bahamas? Why did they possibly get a contract that is unnecessary and not required?

Is there a connection to a very high-up Minister?

Nassau is only 24x7 – you have little land left where to put waste so we have to limit the expansion of the existing landfill which the previous government surrounded with low-cost housing (incredible) and we can’t stop landfill fires and the corrosive emissions of gas and fumes.

Minister Dorsett, we don’t need fancy words we need a clean-up and the most modern use of our waste checking how many cans go there is a waste of public time and energies.
