Praise for gay rights stance

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Hon Fred Mitchell is to be congratulated for his recent stance for lesbian gay bisexual and trans gender (LGBT) people in Trinidad.

He is right to let the world know that all we are doing is hiding behind sun, sand and sea, but we are really a very homophobic people. There is a market for gay tourism only if we would wise up and stop being a pack of fools. The world still considers us to be savages. We need to prove them wrong.

It is amazing how an educated man like Myles Munroe can be so ignorant, I cry shame. He may have visited 138 countries, but he is no wiser for it. One of these days when he has abandoned the flock he is going to meet an empty church building.

Robert G Ingersoll put it this way: It is a thousand times better to have common sense without education than to have education without common sense.

There is so much hate in the Bahamas; we need to start calling ourselves little Jamaica. In the words of the great Martin Luther King Jr. “I have to stick with love; hate is too great a burden to bear.”

However, I don’t fully understand that because we are straight, why do we want to deprive a gay couple of happiness? Happiness is one of Abraham Maslow’s (a great psychologist) hierarchy of needs. If they want to share each other’s lives, who are we to say no. Just because we are straight and holier than thou, yet behind closed doors we are sweethearting and living dual lifestyles. We need to get it right and fix it now and stop playing judge and jury and meddling in others private affairs.

Can’t we all just get along; to live and let live; to each his own. A word to the wise will suffice.
