Two teams vie for BSC championship series place

WHEN the Baptist Sports Council resumes its 2014 Basketball League postseason play tonight at the DW Davis Gymnasium, two teams will be vying for a chance to get into the men’s championship series.

Before the break for the Easter holiday, President’s pennant winning Macedonia and Vice President second place finishers Eagles Nest both took the initial 1-0 lead in their best-of-three semifinal play on Thursday night.

Macedonia held off a man-shortened Hope Centre 60-58 behind the game high 20 points from Delano Knowles. Justin Gardiner added 16 and Chris Gaitor contributed six. Keno Archer had 11, Chris Smith 10, Lionel Tador nine and Kamal Murphy eight in the loss.

Eagles Nest, on the other hand, stunned Vice President pennant winners Men of Vision 50-36 as Christoff Stuart scored 16. Able Joseph had eight, Dano McKenzie seven and Perez Thompson chipped in with six. Ian Pinder led the losers with 14, followed by William Rigby and Brenton Major with five each.

Game two is set for Tuesday night and, if necessary, the third and deciding games are set for Thursday with the first game in the best-of-three championship to follow. If both series are swept, the best-of-three championship is slated to begin on Thursday.

The remainder of the championship will be played on Saturday during which time both the 25-and-under and 19-and-under championship series will also be contested. In the 15-and-under, it’s pennant winners St John’s against BIBA and in the 19-and-under, pennant winning Eagles Nest A will take on Macedonia B.
