POLICE took three suspects into custody over the weekend for questioning for two recent murders while also dealing with five different crime scenes for shootings and a stabbing that left seven men in hospital.

The first arrest of a 17-year-old youth, who was found at West Street, occurred shortly before 4pm on Friday. Officers from the Flying Squad acted on a tip to arrest him for questioning in the case of a murder that occurred on a track road in an inner-city community on August 2.

That same day officers from the same squad acted on another tip that led them to arrest two men, ages 30 and 28, at Kemp Road for questioning in the murder of a man whose body was found in bushes off Cowpen Road on July 15.

On that day, the bullet-riddled body of a man believed to be in his early thirties was discovered in farm land off Faith Avenue.

Regarding the August 2 killing, police received information that gunshots were heard in the Fleming Street area shortly after midnight. When officers arrived, they followed a track road between Fleming and Dunmore Streets, where they found a teenaged boy lying on the ground. He had several gunshot wounds in his body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are still actively investigating both incidents and are still appealing for members of the public to come forth with any information they might have.

Not long after the three arrests, police were called to five different crime scenes in just over 24 hours, between 8pm Friday and 10pm Saturday.

In the first incident, a shooting occurred at Potters Cay Dock shortly after 8pm on Friday that left three men in hospital in stable condition.

Then shortly before 10pm on Friday, a man was sitting in front of his home in Yellow Elder Gardens when the occupants of a green Honda vehicle pulled up and shot him in his leg before speeding off.

The victim was taken to hospital, where he is also detained in stable condition.

In the third incident, shortly after 4am on Saturday, a man was at a club located at Third Street, Coconut Grove, when he was approached by two men and shot in the shoulder. He is detained in stable condition at the hospital.

More than 12 hours later, shortly after 9:30pm, a man was sitting on the porch of his Martin Street home when a man armed with a handgun shot him in his abdomen before fleeing on foot.

His condition in hospital is listed as serious.

Minutes after this shooting, a man was walking on Marshall Road, when he was approached by a group of men who beat him and stabbed him in his head with an unknown object.

The victim was taken to hospital where he is detained in stable condition.

Police are appealing to anyone with information regarding these incidents and/or any crime, no matter how small or insignificant the tip might seem, to anonymously call Police at 919 or CRIME STOPPERS at 328-TIPS (8477) (New Providence) or 1-242-300-8476 (Family Islands).
