Religious leader encourages Bahamians to avoid vigilante justice

A VOCAL religious leader is admonishing Bahamians to let the justice system take its course instead of seeking to avenge themselves by taking the law into their own hands.

With a recent spate of seemingly retaliatory criminal activities taking place in the country, Bishop Simeon Hall warned Bahamians not to turn to vigilante justice.

“Bahamians everywhere must avoid any and all temptation to engage in vigilante justice as this will lead to social anarchy,” he said in a statement.

“The blatant shortcoming, contradictions and slow pace with which our justice system works must not cause civilised people to lose faith in the system.
Politicians must do a great deal more to send a stronger message to would be criminals.”

Bishop Hall’s statement comes of the heels of a suspect in the murders of two women being shot in the head on Monday, just hours after the women died of their wounds.

The suspect, Ryan Smith, became Nassau’s fifth murder victim in less than two days.
