Bamboo Shack Cybots prevail with 73-61 win over NIB Kings

THE Airport Authority and the Bamboo Shack Cybots took the upper hand in their Bahamas Government Departmental Basketball Association first round playoffs that got underway at the DW Davis Gymnasium on Monday night.

While the Airport Authority routed the Prison Challengers 77-76, the Cybots prevailed with a 73-61 win over the NIB Kings.

Devonn Brennen came up with 23 points, 10 rebounds and three assists to pace the Airport Authority. Jerio Coakley was one of two other players in double figures with 16 points. The other was John Smith with 16 points, six rebounds and two assists.

Demetrius Emmanuel also helped out with seven points, 10 rebounds and two assists, Cecil Mackey had seven points with two assists and Clinton Brown contributed six points and four rebounds for the Authority, who got 21 points from their opponent’s turnovers, 18 in the paint, 16 on second chances attempts and two on the fast break.

Patrick Brice scored a game high 27 points with eight rebounds and three assists in a losing effort. Theran Rolle had 11 points, three rebounds and two assists, Corey Clarke had eight points and nine rebounds, Tresant Strachan had seven points and 13 rebounds and Hervis Culmer added six points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Cybots 73, Kings 61

Eugene Bain exploded for a game high 28 points with 16 rebounds and seven assists to almost single-handedly power the Bamboo Shack to victory. Ernest Saunders was the only other player in double figures with 10 points, six rebounds and three assists.

The Cybots, who scored 28 points on turnovers by their opponents, 24 in the paint, 15 on second chances and 14 from their fast break, also got nine points, four assists and two rebounds from Brian ‘Tucker’ Bain and eight points, three rebounds and three assists from Cyril Rolle.

For the Kings, Dominique Dean came up with a side high 18 points with eight rebounds, Chara Wallace had 12 points, Garvin Clarke 11 points, five assists and two rebounds, Garret Bullard eight points and Chermarco Brown chipped in with seven points and six rebounds.

The BGDBA is scheduled to continue its playoffs with another double header at the DW Davis Gymnasium tonight.
