WHO is the most original DJ in the Bahamas? A new competition seeks to discover one talented individual who can keep a crowd throughly engaged and entertained while showcasing his or her original talent in the DJ booth.

Burns House Group of Companies, in conjunction with 100 Jamz, launched the Stoli’s Most Original DJ competition last week.

The competition is open to all men and women over the age 18 who believe they are the most original and talented. Each person must submit a 15-20 minute demo that includes Bahamian music, hip hop, R&B, pop/top 40, reggae/culture and soca.
From the submissions, 20 finalists will be chosen and have their demo featured on the 100 Jamz Thunderstorm party. Listeners will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite top 10 who will then have a chance to mix live on 100 Jamz’s Thunderstorm.

Thereafter the contestants will be chosen to go head-to-head in a battle at Club Luna on September 20. The winner will be crowned “Stoli Most Original DJ 242”.

The competition was officially launched last Monday and persons interested in submitting demos have until August 24 to do so.

AnnMarie Romer, a brand manager at Burns House Group of Companies, said the competition is a platform to showcase some of the most talented acts in the Bahamas.

“The whole mantra of Stoli is originality and Stoli encourages all of it’s consumers to be the most original you. If you are a hair dresser, we encourage you to be the most original hairstylist; if you are a DJ, we encourage you to be the most original DJ; if you are a musician, we encourage you to be the most original musician. We wanted to use this contest as a platform to showcase the best DJ talent that we have here in Bahamas. We are looking for individuals who have the ability to mix, who are charismatic, who are unique and original in their approach to music,” she told In Ya Ear.

“The last time that we had a DJ contest was the Henieken Green Synergy Contest which was several years ago. Trying to find ways to increase engagement with our consumers has always been a big part of what we do at Burns House and this exercise is a ways for us to achieve that.”
Ms Romer said she hopes that this competition also gets major participation from female disc jockeys who are just as talented as their male counterparts.
The winner of the competition will receive prizes including an internship at 100 Jamz for one month which includes being featured on the 100 Jamz Thunderstorm, Beats headphone by Dr Dre and Stoli Elit.

“We have been getting a lot of excitement and interest in the contest. The prizes are amazing, especially the internship at 100 Jamz, and the winner is also getting the MacBook Pro and Beats by Dr Dre. So we are giving them the tools they need as a DJ,” Ms Romer said.

“We have a good feeling that this event will be a great one. I have been listening to some of the demos and I must say it is amazing what some of these people can do,” she said.
