IN an effort to create a more vibrant movie community, Bahamian film maker Travolta Cooper has launched a new internet movie critic show.

‘The Cinemas’, a show which will spotlight the latest movie releases and happenings in the movie world, will be released bi-weekly. The first episode was filmed last week and can be viewed on the YTV Youtube channel.

Mr Cooper told Tribune Entertainment the lack of a vibrant movie community was what led him to launch ‘The Cinemas’.

Mr Cooper will be joined on the show by local radio personality Teej Grant, and they will share their thoughts on the latest releases.

The first movie critiqued by the duo, was ‘12 Years A Slave’, which was brought back to theatres by Galleria Cinemas for just a week.

“It is ten minute long web show. The first half is called insta-cinema which is really quick instant reviews of movies of our selection and we are asking our audience to Instagram us or Tweet us their feedback, with a view to getting their comments on our next show or their presence. There is also a ‘Coke & a Movie’ segment brought by Coco Cola and that is really designed to give people free tickets to come to the movies. The final segment is ‘Dining and a Movie’, sponsored by Outback Steakhouse, which is designed to highlight a movie that is worth having dinner or coffee over.

That movie this week is ‘12 Years A Slave’,” he said.
For the most part Mr Cooper said ‘The Cinemas’ is a movie review show tailor-made for bridging a movie community here in the Bahamas and hopefully the Caribbean.

“I had spoken to Chris Mortimer at Galleria Cinemas about creating a movie community here and I think that is the essence of the show.

“It will evolve over the months and will sort of mesh with what is going on at the cinemas. The Oscars are going on right now, so we are leading up to a big Oscar bash at Outback Steakhouse on March 2. I also know at some point there is the travelling film showcase that most of the Bahamians have no idea about. We want to spotlight special events happening at the cinema,” he said.

Mr Cooper said there will also be opportunities for Bahamians to come on the show to express their views.

He is also collaborating with Bahamaslocal.com and Bahamasweekly.com to put it on their webpage.
