SEVERE WEATHER WARNING 2.40pm-5.40pm

THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 2:40PM EDT UNTIL 5:40PM TODAY.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR EXUMA, ELEUTHERA, LONG ISLAND, CAT ISLAND, SOUTH AND CENTRAL ANDROS AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 2:35PM OBSERVATION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED CLUSTERS AND LINES OF HEAVY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS REMAIN NEARLY STATIONARY ACROSS EXUMA, LONG ISLAND, ELEUTHERA, CAT ISLAND, SOUTH AND CENTRAL ANDROS AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY. LOCALISED FLOODING WILL OCCUR IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS DURING SOME STORMS.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
