Are you getting sufficient calcium?

CALCIUM is the most abundant mineral in the body and it has been long established that it is fundamental to the formation and maintenance of strong bones and teeth.

But this is just a starting point to the benefits that are derived by the body. The bones serves as a calcium storage tank from which the body is able to withdraw.
Calcium is important in the functioning of regular heart beat and the transmission of nerve impulses, and is crucial for muscle growth and contraction and for the prevention of muscle cramps. Calcium is also essential in preventing blood clotting and preventing bone loss associated with osteoporosis.
Deficiency of calcium can result in muscle cramps, brittle nails, aching joints, high cholesterol, rheumatoid arthritis, heart palpitations, tooth decay, dizziness, insomnia, rickets and numbness in the limbs.

A study done at St Luke Hospital Centre in Manhattan in recent years indicated that regular intake of calcium dramatically slowed abnormal cell growth of individuals threatened with colon cancer. A similar study consisting of 500 women suggests that a sufficient intake of calcium on a regular basis dramatically diminished their PMS problems by 48 per cent.

Most experts recommend 1,000mg of calcium daily. In order for the body to make the most of its calcium intake, a sufficient amount of vitamin D must be taken to create a better balance in the body. Growing children need a full daily dose of calcium as well. The Forever Kids supplement is excellent, as it also contains phytonutrients. Seniors and active sports participants also need to get sufficient calcium into their systems.

In the event you find yourself suffering from any of the symptoms mentioned above, perhaps you need to up your calcium intake. After all, prevention is said to be better than cure.
