POLICE are not certain of the circumstances surrounding the death of a man found floating in waters off Potter’s Cay Dock on Sunday night.

Police were called to the scene around 10pm when officers were told that the body of a man was seen floating near boats in the area. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rumours began to spread on social media yesterday that the victim was robbed, hit in the head and thrown in the water. However Assistant Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson could not confirm or deny the rumours.

“We don’t really know what happened and we are trying to investigate the circumstances,” he said. “All we can say at this point is that a body was found. We don’t have any details we can speak to at this time other than the report that a body was overboard. Hopefully, by the end of the day, we can have some more information.”

ACP Ferguson said an autopsy will have to be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

In early April, a woman’s body was discovered floating in waters near Potter’s Cay Dock. At the time, police said they suspected the woman had drowned.

Superintendent Stephen Dean said the body appeared to have been in the water overnight and that fishermen called the police after seeing the body between two boats at the harbour.
