THIS past holiday weekend, all eyes in the Bahamian golfing community were focused on the island of Grand Bahama where the Bahamas Golf Federation held its 2014 National Amateur Championship.
The venue was the Reef Golf course in Freeport, where most of the country’s top were either vying for the prestigious Prime Minister’s Cup, or the President’s Cup.
The field of 48 golfers was a mixture of experience and youth, embracing the following categories: Regulars; Mid Amateurs; Seniors; Super Seniors; Ladies. Daily prizes were offered by RUBIS BAHAMAS LTD, and WATKINS STREET LIQUOR STORE for both the Gross and Net winners.
The four-day competition was highlighted by the stellar performance of young Ben Davis Jr. who carded an impressive 6-under-par total for the entire event. Davis is now expected to anchor the team when it travels to Puerto Rico for the annual Caribbean Amateur Championship, August 3-9, 2014.

Gross Winner – Perry Cooper. Seniors : Net Winner – Chris Harris. Gross Winner – Theron Cooper. Super Seniors: Net Winner – Vernon Wells. Gross Winner – Dr. Larry Bain. Ladies: Net Winner - Brianne Robinson. Gross Winner - Inecia Rolle.
The federation will now spend the next few days analysing the results of this tournament and together with the results of its Lyford Cay tournament, select its team for the championship in Puerto Rico.
