CELEBRATE Freeport and the Assemblies of God RV 500 Initiative, in partnership with several major institutions, will distribute 1,000 pairs of tennis shoes to needy children on Grand Bahama this summer.

Pastor Eddie Victor and his wife, Margo, are spearheading the Samaritan Feet Project. The first phase of the shoe distribution programme will be held on July 5 at 10am at the Foster B Pestaina Centre.

Partnering with the Victors in this project are the City of Faith Ministries in Miami, Florida, SeaCor, Urban Renewal, G&G Shipping, the Grand Bahama Port Authority, Bahamas Customs and the Pro-Cathedral Christ the King.

Mr Victor said the distribution would be done on a first come, first served basis.

“Each child that will be receiving shoes on that day will have their feet washed and be ministered to by leaders from our community,” he said.

Michelle Reckley, of Urban Renewal Grand Bahama, said: “We are out in the community and see the needs every day and I am sure these shoes will go to persons who need them.”

Rev Terrence Jones said he was pleased to be a part of the programmes that assist young people. “I want to like to thank all those parties that are involved because it is always good to do something positive for young people. We are always hearing and seeing the negative things about young people and any organisation that is doing something good for young people, I am pleased to be a part of it.”

Nicola Rahming, of G & G Shipping, commended Pastor Victor for getting them involved in the project. “I want to thank him for bringing us onboard with this wonderful gesture. It is much needed and I encourage corporate entities and individuals to get involved with giving back to the community and helping those in need,” she said.
