EDITOR, The Tribune.
I refer to the various proposals offered for the privatisation of BEC and the conundrum that is Leslie Miller.
To quote Mr Miller, “I believe in Bahamianisation and I believe that the government, whatever it does, should ensure that BEC is left to be managed and owned by the people of the Bahamas.”
He admits, however, that an international partner is needed to provide the capital and technology that BEC lacks, but the government should not allow them to make any decisions and they should not be full-fledged partners.
What a novel way of attracting foreign partner financing and technology, they pay but have no say.
He goes on to say: “My personal view on that is I don’t think we should allow no foreign entity to be in charge of such a vital entity in our country that the fella could pull the plug on you if you don’t pay your bill.” Really!
Imagine allowing dem foreigners to cut off we current ’cause we ’ain pay.
Strange that he doesn’t have a problem with the BEC union pulling the plug on us regularly even when we do pay, but they can’t seem to find the plug to pull on others who don’t pay.
At this point, Bahamian businesses and homeowners have been groaning under the BEC yoke for sooo long they probably wouldn’t care if the Devil himself bought and privatised BEC so long as he provided the relief so often promised, but never delivered.
