THE Grand Lucayan Resort has launched its Concert series for 2014 with five major cultural events slated to take place at the resort property in Lucaya, Grand Bahama.
Michael Pintard, concert coordinator/spokesman, said the concert series is part of the hotel’s plan, in conjunction with its partners, to brand Grand Bahama as a destination where festivals are held.
He said the first in the series will be an all-Bahamian event called ‘Bahamian Beats and Barbeque.’
Three of country’s hottest Bahamian artists will be performing, including DMack, KB, and Veronica Bishop, all backed by Wilfred Solomon and the Magnetics.
“It will be a buffet style dinner, and people can eat and experience the cultural genius of our Bahamian artists,” said Mr Pintard.
He said that persons from New Providence, Bimini, and Abaco are encouraged to come to Grand Bahama for a night of culture.
Mr Pintard said space is limited and companies have reserved two and three tables that seats 10.
“We are excited by the response. If Grand Bahamians are interested in jump-starting the economy, culture is really the vehicle in which that can happen, and so they have an opportunity to play a direct role in impacting what happens on the island,” he said.
“When tourists are making a decision on where to go we want them to look at what is happening in GB.”
Other big events lined up this year include an Independence Concert on July 10, and a Gospel Concert on July 13 featuring local and international artists.
On October 4, there will be a Latin Concert, featuring artists from Cuba and South Florida. Finally, a New Year’s Eve Concert on December 31. Roderick Colebrooke, director of rooms at Grand Lucayan, said the resort is looking forward to the cultural events that have been planned this year.
“It is indeed a privilege to be able to start a series like this in GB,” he said. “We think this is going to be a fantastic experience for our guests and locals.”
Mr Pintard thanked all the partners, including the Minister of Culture Danny Johnson, Sky Bahamas, the official airline for the concert series, EZBids, and Nae’s Pancake House.
