I think living under two laws does humanity great injustice, one law for the “haves” and one for the “have nots”. In The Bahamas, the illegals do as they please, untouched by the law. In many cases, they are perceived to be poor, while the rich find many other ways to manipulate the law, getting through the court system because of their power. This injustice needs to stop.
An American President called Abraham Lincoln, recognised a similar problem years ago during slavery in America. Americans in the south wanted to retain their slaves, which caused a bloody war. Despite the imperfection where some things fall short, under great pressure and restraint, I think this present administration is doing a commendable job.
There are huge problems that exist in The Bahamas, in America and around the world. Immigration, finance and civil arrest are among the most pressing. Seeing that we have vast open borders, falling finances and many undocumented immigrants in the country, we are aware that America shares similar problems. These are now ongoing problems; therefore we ask America for more help and consideration.
To those who are responsible for law enforcement, “all Shanty Towns must go” all over The Bahamas. This creates injustice for both classes, the rich and the poor. Unscrupulous land owners who hoard and collect, you could never find out their names, when it is known by those in the upper class. They appoint lawyers to protect their interest while the evil goes on for many more years.
People get things done with papers that are questionable in the shanty towns, that a law-abiding citizen could not get done. They devalue other people’s property and in some cases leave the environment with a foul scent.
Mr Branville McCartney said he flew overhead in New Providence and had seen about 37 Shanty Towns. In recent reports, reporters said that there are 15. What is going on?
Many illegals crowd around our institutions, whether it is the hospital or schools pushing Bahamians around or out and they pay little or no tax. They enjoy the land and become ungrateful. Many of them curse and disrespect us and go so far as to burn our flag. It is time for us to deal with this problem.
All responsible people should assist the Government in elevating these unfortunate circumstances.
