IT was a perfect season for the Holland College Hurricanes football club, and now they set their sights on the postseason and successfully defending the Atlantic Football League’s Moosehead Cup.

The Hurricanes closed out the regular season with their toughest test of the year thus far - a 29-27 win over the Dalhousie Tigers on the road at Wickwire Field in Halifax on Saturday.

They finished the regular season with a 6-0 record.

Nine Bahamians are on the Hurricanes’ roster this season and they made an immediate impact on the team in the regular season.

The group includes returning stars - linebacker Cardell Rolle, wide recicvers Eugene McMinns and Xavier Hanna, defensive lineman Dale Knowles and Revello Williamson, defensive back Arrien MacDonald, along with newcomers running back Jamal Storr, defensive lineman D’aiquin Wilmore and offensive lineman Shelton Williams.

In the first matchup between the teams, the Hurricanes won 42-15 over the Tigers at home.

The Hurricanes will host a semi-final playoff game against the UNB-Fredricton Red Bombers at the UPEI Alumni Place 1pm on Saturday, October 25.

With a win, the Hurricanes will host the championship final on Sunday, November 2.

Storr has scored six rushing touchdowns on the season, while McMinns caught three and Hanna added another score through the air.

Rolle, the defensive captain, caught three interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, while Williamson recorded three sacks and one interception.

The potent Hurricanes offence scored an average of 39 points per game, while allowing just 18.
