Minnis doesn't know party rules

EDITOR, The Tribune.

The more we watch the events leading up to the FNM “snap convention” called by Hubert Minnis play out, we realise that he is not a student of politics. Otherwise how could he be making so many glaring missteps? He has “flipped”, now we will wait for him to “flop.”

Now he has called a convention without the proper notice as per the FNM Constitution. He gave 42 days notice when it should have been 56 days.

He called a convention when he knew only a few constituencies were functioning, many of which did not have one meeting since the 2012 election. The criteria of attending three meetings to become eligible to vote in a constituency association election were waived on behalf of Minnis over zealousness. Delegates are randomly being selected. Also being financial has also been waived so as to get the five delegates favourable to one side over to the other in an effort, it would appear, to “stack the deck”.

Minnis was on television bragging about democracy, when he should have been aware that he has breached the constitution in every way to gain an advantage. His camp thinks it is being “politically shrewd”. I say it is political ignorance in his quest to finally be elected, since he was “selected” before.

Minnis will not “man up” to this breach. He will probably blame someone else. Recently we are seeing some poor characteristics, not consistent with leadership.

FNM who pride themselves in running a class organisation must be embarrassed even if Minnis is not, in watching their constitution being scuttled by a man who knows very little about the party that he wants to lead. What a poor example to set.
