Not enough notice

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Re: “Dr Hubert Minnis was wrong to call a snap Convention”

I read with interest the letter to the editor by A Burrows (21 October) who asserts that Dr Minnis did not breach the FNM constitution by calling an early convention for the 21 November.

Section 65 of the constitution states: “Any proposed alterations or amendments to the Constitution must be submitted to the Secretary General not less than fifty-six (56) days prior to the date set for the convening of a Convention.”

Because Dr Minnis recommended to the Central Council on the 9 October to convene the convention on the 21 November results in 42 days notice instead of the mandated 56 days notice.
