IN an effort to bring the basketball fraternity up to date on the new rule changes, the Bahamas Basketball Federation is scheduled to hold its National Basketball Referee/Table Official Clinic at the AF Adderley Gymnasium this weekend.

National instructor Freddie Brown said the rule changes are consistent with the FIBA, the governing body for international basketball, decision to amend the rules every 2-4 years or following the World Championships and or the Olympic Games.

Brown noted that the new changes for Level I and II competition came into effect as of October 1 and will be applicable to all sanctioned leagues and basketball associations. He added that all sanctioned leagues and associations must adhere to the new rules.

The clinic is slated to begin 6:15pm today and continue Friday at the same time, wrapping up after Saturday’s 9:30pm session.

“This clinic is open to all persons connected to the game,” Brown said. “While it is more specifically geared towards referees, we recognise our stakeholders role in understanding the rules. But we want to make sure that everybody is cognizant of the rules. So all are invited, coaches, players, the media and league commissioners.”

The cost for the clinic is just $20, but for those persons wishing to get a rule book with the interpretation, the cost will be $30.

As the national instructor, Brown will be conducting the clinic along with Norman ‘Mouch’ Humes, the newly installed FIBA commissioner. Brown said they intend to add a local coach to assist with the referee/coaches relationship.
