Scores of Customs and Immigration officers and nurses walked off their respective jobs around 8.30am this morning, in the first day of a "massive" strike planned by the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

TUC Presdient Obie Fergsuson told The Tribune the workers will not return to work and will withdraw their services for "as long it takes".

Sloan Smith, vice president of the Bahamas Customs, Immigration and Allied Workers Union said after several failed meetings with the government, his members "have had enough" and "no customs or immigration officer will retun to work, until their demands are met”.

Bahamas Nurses Union President Jannah Khalfani said more than 1,000 of her members will not "go anywhere near the hospital or the clinics" unless the government agrees to meet the demands. She said she is "sick and tired" of the nurses being disrespected and treated poorly.

The strike began and 8.30am and union members protested in front of their respective headquarters. Mr Ferguson said today's strike is just a "taste" of that is to come.

What's the demands? Goods still coming into the country no tax while customs get greased... Immigration playing when it comes to the illegal situation... Nowhere in the civil service is there customer service or good work ethic. Let um strike so the government cud save money not having to pay salary to under performing civil servants

Obie still being stupid about the 7 day work week that you only work 5 days of but still wanting 7 days of vacation pay for that same 5 days of work. So I get paid $200 a week and work Monday to Friday...when I take a week off of work my employer doesn't pay me the 200, in Obie's world, they pay me for 7 days...so 280 for my vacation week. Oh...but wait!! your 'weekend' doesn't count towards your vacation time, so technically you get the 5 days off out of the week you typically work, and an extra 2 days the following work week to give you your 7 days of 'work' off.

These people have got to understand - there is NO MONEY to pay them. All the money was needed to pay for free clinics and schools for Haitians.

These Bahamians just come too late, the money done spent.

We need to get rid of the PLP, FNM and Haitian cartels that are dragging our country down to Haiti's level.

Now that we finally have the "LYING GREEDY DOGS ATTENTION" we need to follow through and SHUT THE WHOLE DAM COUNTRY DOWN until the following are addressed:

1) The implementation of an Immediate retroactive Freedom Of Information Act

2) Set date for referendum on VAT vs. Income tax

3) Set date for referendum on Article 7 of the constitution dealing with automatic citizenship

4) Reduce the power of the Prime Minister

5) Full exposure as to why EVERY OIL PRODUCING COUNTRY in the world split exploration and oil extraction contracts 40/60 and BAHAMAS signs a deal for 14/86.

Now is the time to act on everything and get it all done one time!

No more blah, blah, blah from these jokers......They won't listen so make them FEEL!
